Seasonal Day Camp Counsellor

1 Part-time position

The Town of Slave Lake is looking for an energetic and responsible individual to join our team for the summer months of July & August, as a Day Camp Counsellor to lead and implement activities for the “Summer Splash” camp program for children 6-11 years old from July 21 – August 23, 2025.

SALARY

$18.72 - $23.59 per hour

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To implement and lead activities set out by the Day Camp Coordinator.
  • Actively supervise and ensure the safety of children.
  • Create a safe, welcoming and fun environment for all campers.
  • Work collaboratively with other camp leaders.
  • Communicate professionally with parents and guardians about their child’s day at camp.
  • Collaborate and mentor Leaders in Training volunteers.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • Current First Aid/CPR an asset.
  • Previous experience working with youth.
  • Water safety/Life guarding experience an asset.
  • Valid Class Five (5) Alberta Driver’s License an asset.
  • Bronze Medallion or willingness to obtain would be an asset.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Good written/verbal communications, interpersonal and public relations skills.
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work within a team environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer and keyboarding skills such as Microsoft Word

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work outdoors most of the time. They may occasionally work indoors when leading activities.
  • Are often exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting and uncomfortable, such as music.
