Business Development Specialist - International
About the role
We are currently recruiting for the following role in our Toronto office:
Business Development Specialist - International Reports To Director, International Business Development & Client Engagement
Essential Functions
- Work directly with the Director, International Business Development & Client Engagement on researching, planning, and execution of the firm's international business development strategy
- Support the inbound and outbound referrals process, including making recommendations to lawyers for outbound referral firms as part of the firm’s outbound referral strategy
- Prepare reports, charts and presentations using Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI and other dashboard tools in support of senior management
- Support the Client Development and Industry & Client Teams on all aspects of International Business Development as it relates to their designated practice / industry areas, attending group meetings when directed
- Advise on best practices, share firm intelligence and facilitate coordination across all industry/practice groups to ensure a cohesive firm-wide approach in alignment with stated international BD objectives
- Manage designated City & Market teams, working with the lead lawyer(s) to develop targeted strategy for each jurisdiction that furthers the firm’s international BD goals
- Develop relationships with counterparts at international law firms to facilitate smooth flow of referrals, enable introductions, and schedule meetings as required
- Ensure up-to-date knowledge of market trends, law firm mergers, and movement of key law firm personnel
- Maintain the firm's intranet pages relating to international strategy, ensuring that information remains current, reports are uploaded, and resources are updated as needed
- Make recommendations on technology tools to drive greater efficiencies and automate processes
- Working with the Finance team - Oversee the collection of data relating to referrals
- Working with the Competitive Intelligence team - Coordinate research on markets and firms
- Working with the Business Development Technology team - Oversee maintenance of
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in Business, Finance, Law, Library Information and Technology or related field
- 3-5 years' experience in a legal or professional services business development
- Working knowledge of the international law firm landscape is strongly preferred
- Curiosity with a persistent drive to expand knowledge
- A strong team player; demonstrates a positive work ethic
- Superior technical knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI, Teams, Outlook, and an aptitude for learning new software
- Excellent organization and time management skills and capable of handling multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Analytical, creative and critical thinking – connect dots between projects and identify opportunities for continuous improvement
- Strong interpersonal skills to develop cross-functional relationships within the department and throughout the firm
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Maintains professionalism, confidentiality, and discretion
