The Opportunity

General Bank of Canada is looking for a permanent, fulltime Commercial Credit Analyst to join as a key contributor with the Bank’s Commercial Services Group. Consistent with the growth trajectory of the Bank, this is an excellent opportunity for the right individual to contribute to building the Bank of the future with considerable potential for learning, growth, and advancement.

Reporting to the National Managing Director, Commercial Services Group, the Commercial Credit Analyst, with minimal supervision, will support the Commercial Services lending functions by performing a variety of administrative and analytical procedures. Working closely with the Underwriting and Business Development teams, this position will assist in the preparation of new loan applications, loan renewals, and the ongoing administration of the portfolio. In addition, the incumbent will work with the National Managing Director with portfolio analytics and board reporting.

Position Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing administrative support to the Underwriting and Business Development teams.

  • Complete various searches (g., Land Title, PPR, International Aircraft Registry, Credit Bureaus, etc.) on new applications and any account reviews/loan extensions.

  • Provide support to the Business Lending Support business unit including credit progress advances, processing loan funding and acting as a backup for other duties.

  • Responsible for overseeing the account review and loan renewal processes by identifying, collecting, and assembling the required data and information from borrowers and financial partners.

  • Monitor loan covenant requirements, insurance renewals, and financial reporting schedules.

  • Assist in the preparation of annual reviews, loan renewals, and modifications of existing credit facilities.

  • Prepare credit facility letters for review.

  • Work directly with customers and third-party providers (g., lawyers, loan servicers, syndication partners, accountants, brokers, etc.) to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.

  • Actively communicate with external partners associated with the Commercial Services Group as required, to build and maintain effective relationships.

  • Support the National Managing Director with department reporting requirements by utilizing relevant business metrics and maintaining monthly reports as applicable. The same will include participation in portfolio reviews and stress testing exercises.

  • Support continuous improvement of Commercial Services Group processes by committing to generating ideas specific to improving the loan processing cycle. Support internal and external auditors during credit reviews/audits.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of banking regulations, lending products, and industry trends.

  • Responsible for prioritizing and re-prioritizing as required to ensure tasks are completed in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Be a leader of change for the Commercial Services Group; by embracing and enabling transitional and process changes, adapting quickly to change, and providing extra support where needed.

  • Work closely with the Data, Technology & Innovation department to provide support with Commercial’s loan management system, as required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Bring to the Table

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in banking administration or commercial lending.
  • Demonstrated administrative experience or experience in support-type positions.
  • Proficient in computer operations, including intermediate-level skills in Microsoft Office applications and financial software applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in the fields of administration or business.

  • Experience in financial services lending software.
