WAGE RATE: $24.526 – $26.436
Reporting to the Manager of Owen Sound Emergency Department & Ambulatory Care, the Ward Clerk is responsible to facilitate the flow of patients efficiently and safely through accurate and timely completion of assigned duties. Ambulatory Care is an outpatient setting that hosts an array of clinics that serve a diverse patient population in all surgical and medical sub-specialties. Ambulatory Care is a challenging dynamic environment with a rapid pace and high turnover of patients daily. The Ward Clerk provides support to the ACU registration desk, fracture clinic, scheduling, and other clinics on a rotational basis. The Ward Clerk will demonstrate excellent written and verbal communications with tact, diplomacy, empathy and courtesy to patients, families and staff. The Ward Clerk must be proficient in all Cerner Applications, Medipay and Microsoft Applications.
Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:
Required
- Secondary School Diploma with relevant administrative/secretarial experience or post-secondary business/office administration diploma
- Successful completion of PM Access (testing and training is available through Learning Resources)
- Knowledge of supervisor order entry in Cerner applications
- Proven experience in clinical scheduling environment – which includes using Cerner ESM
- Recent clerical experience in an outpatient clinic with competencies in transcription, processing and follow-up of physicians orders
- Proficiency in patient registration and in patient scheduling
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office – Word (to be tested)
- Knowledge of medical terminology (to be tested)
- Competent use of e-requisitioning application
- Typing 30 wpm (to be tested)
- Knowledge of payroll entry in Medipay
- Effective problem solving, decision making and organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing work environment
- Self-directed worker with minimal supervision
- Availability to all shifts on a rotational basis and flexibility to adapt to changing hours of work based on clinic volume
- Recent satisfactory performance and attendance record
