The Global Engagement Officer plays a pivotal role in advancing North Island College’s (NIC) strategic priorities in internationalization, intercultural engagement, and global education. Reporting to the Manager of International Projects, Partnerships, and Global Education, this position is instrumental in fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for international students, establishing international mobility initiatives that enhance the global competencies of students, faculty, and staff; and supporting the attraction and implementation of- and reporting for- international projects.

This dynamic role involves the proactive planning, coordination, and implementation of international student engagement and orientation programs, as well as international mobility initiatives for students, faculty, and staff. A central focus of the position is the operationalization of NIC’s commitment to the Indigenization of international education, global learning opportunities, and study abroad programming. The Global Engagement Officer acts as a bridge between departments within NIC and external local, Indigenous and international community, academic, research and project funding partners, cultivating collaboration that supports impactful global initiatives.

The role also oversees the International Peer Connector program, leading, mentoring, and supervising a team of International Peer Connectors dedicated to supporting the integration and success of international students within both the campus and wider community.

In alignment with NIC’s international education plan, Journeying Together, the Global Engagement Officer assists in the planning, development, and delivery of key projects and priorities within the Office of Global Engagement. This includes supporting research, proposal development, funding applications, and project reporting and budgeting. The Global Engagement Officer is further responsible for the creation and refinement of administrative and operational systems that ensure the efficient delivery of local and international project-based programming.

Given the scope of responsibilities, this role occasionally requires navigating complex international inter-cultural environments and sensitive student matters that demand risk awareness; and thoughtful, discretionary decision-making that can have broad implications for the College community and institutional reputation and finances.

The Global Engagement Officer is aware of the mission and values of North Island College, incorporating and practicing the values in all aspects of the role.
