About This Location:

Our Home Office is located in the heart of Bloor West Village in Toronto, just steps away from Jane Subway station. This position is a hybrid role where your time will be spent in office and working from home, based on operational requirements.

About This Role:

The Senior Accountant plays a key role in supporting the accuracy and integrity of our financial operations. Reporting to the Accounting Supervisor and working within established company policies and accounting principles, this role is responsible for reconciling and analyzing general ledger accounts, preparing and posting journal entries, and managing timely sales tax calculations and remittances.

This position contributes directly to maximizing company profitability and advancing the Finance team’s objectives by delivering accurate, high-quality financial support and exceptional service to internal stakeholders.

Key Qualifications and Demonstrated Abilities:

  • Prepares various account reconciliations, investigates discrepancies and ensures correcting journal entries are completed to resolve outstanding issues.
  • Prepares and uploads approved monthly journal entries within time parameters.
  • Prepares and remits provincial sales taxes monthly for all entity companies and ensures any necessary year end adjustments are made.
  • Balances the interim and year end physical inventory counts to the general ledger, determines the source of discrepancies and ensures proper corrections are completed.
  • Prepares or assists in reporting related to inventory, trust funding and other financial information.
  • Compiles various schedules for the Finance Department to be utilized in preparation of Quarterly and Annual Reports.
  • Provides information for internal or external audit requests.
  • Assists in system testing for new or enhancements to financial systems.
  • Provides backup to other senior accountants to support banking, credit card activities (daily reporting and maintenance of merchant numbers) and bank loan and swap activities.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Completion of a university degree or college diploma in accounting.
  • Enrollment or completion of a CPA program.
  • 2-3 years related accounting experience.
  • Possesses a keen sense of initiative with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Demonstrated judgment and decision-making skills with experience investigating and analyzing financial information to formulate conclusions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and consistently achieves a high level of accuracy.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills including MS Access, MS Excel and work experience with an accounting software package.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, customer service and communication skills; verbal, written and presentation.
