Reporting to the Supervisor, Scheduling, this position is responsible for scheduling of transit services including service timetabling and the creation of bus operator runs and work packages, monitoring of network performance, forecast transit demand and plan transit services, supporting operational planning including detours and special events, and ensuring adequate programs are in place to support transit needs; conducting analysis of ridership, schedule reliability and other data; and providing input to road reconstruction projects.
The incumbent will:

Analyze, propose and develop route, service, stop and terminal enhancements that are supported by business case summaries
-
Liaise with the Transit Control Centre and Operations Supervisors, Customer Service, and other functional groups regarding proposed operational changes including detours, or significant operational events.

Participate in the annual service planning process, which includes the justification of service changes, additional staff and bus resources
-
Propose new and adjusted services through analysis, updates, and generation of documents pertaining to nodes, route patterns, alignments and distances, revenue service beginning and ending times, frequencies, and vehicle requirements
-
Liaise with Maintenance team regarding vehicle availability and assignment of vehicle types
-
Support the Service Design team with analysis of passenger travel patterns and peak demand to optimize connectivity within the system and with other systems to ensure passenger travel times and wait times are minimized

Provide recommendations to improve efficiencies of transit services
-
Adjust transit routes through analyzing, updating, and generating supporting documentation
-
Liaise with outside partner agencies, suppliers and customers

Work in accordance with the provisions of application health and safety legislation and all corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to occupational health and safety

Provide input to development applications, planning documents, and road reconstruction projects
The successful applicant will possess:

Post-secondary education in Planning, Engineering, Data Analysis, Mathematics, Business Administration and/or Statistics
-
Progressive experience in transit and transportation planning
-
Knowledge of theories, principles and practices of public transit, transportation, urban land use and regional planning
-
Knowledge of theories, principles and practices of transit planning, transit priority measures, and scheduling
-
Computer literacy with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Access, Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint and GIS (geographical information systems)
-
Business and fiscal analysis, statistics theories and trends, statistical principles and survey techniques
-
Knowledge of basic data processing procedures, operations, data flow, and records maintenance, as well as knowledge on report preparation methods
-
Data interpretation and analytical skills
-
Highly refined written and communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey issues and concepts in a convincing and easily understood manner

Excellent analytical and research skills showing good judgment and sound problem-solving abilities
-
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of regional staff, municipal and provincial partners, and the public
-
Ability to work outside normal business hours on occasion as required
Knowledge of Ontario's municipal planning policy framework would be considered an asset.
- Salary: $79,195 to $98,994 per annum

Durham Region Transit (DRT) is a integrated transit system operating in Durham Region, Ontario, Canada.
DRT operates conventional transit service, running over 50 routes spanning Newcastle and Orono to the east, Orillia to the north, and University of Toronto's Scarborough campus to the west. DRT also operates PULSE, a bus rapid transit service along the Region's main spine, Highway 2. DRT recently began its "On Demand" service in north Durham, where service runs only when requested by the customer. On Demand service connects rural residents in Brock, Uxbridge, and Scugog townships, as well as to Orillia and Lindsay.
DRT also offers door-to-door transit service for persons with disabilities.
