About the role

Solus Trust Company (STC) is an affiliate company of Raymond James Ltd. (RJL), Canada’s leading independent investment dealer offering high quality investment products and services to Canadians seeking customized solutions to their wealth management needs. STC provides personal estate, trust and agency services to clients of Raymond James Ltd, it’s correspondent services clients as well to clients referred externally via Centers of Influence (COIs) and other Financial Institutions.

VP, Business Development Estate & Trust Services Solus Trust Company How does the role impact the organization? Reporting to the CEO Solus Trust Company, the VP, Business Development is a National Sales and Strategy role focused on the growth of our trust business outside of our RJL channels across Canada.

What will your role be responsible for?

  • Responsible for the development and successful execution of the strategic plan related to the growth of our trust services outside of RJL for COIs and external Financial Institutions.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the Solus Trust team to deliver best in class service and support to our clients, partners and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinates with the Estate & Trust Solutions team to ensure the successful achievement of regional and national goals related to external new business sources and service excellence.
  • Building strategic relationships with COIs with the goal of enhancing their knowledge and willingness to work in collaboration with Solus Trust for the benefit of their high-net-worth clients.
  • Lead our National COI rollout strategy to expand our COI referral network across all key markets in Canada.
  • Leads clients engagements related to presenting and selling STC services.
  • Ensure that new business onboarded meets our business standards and practices.
  • Develop and implement a business plan to ensure the successful achievement of the overall goals to grow our external referral sources.
  • Work in collaboration with our Estate & Trust Solutions leaders to execute business strategy focused on a national delivery to skill builds, client and partner presentations, webinars and articles to enhance the knowledge and brand of our trust business.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of Estate and Trust Laws, common law and other relevant legislation, case law, and internal policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and delivers seminars, client events & skill builds to increase STC brand awareness and new business opportunities (outside of RJL).
  • Recognize when the business risk identified may require external legal counsel and promptly escalate the matter up to the CEO.
  • Liaise with compliance, operations, legal and other related lines of business to resolve system, administrative, risk management and legal issues pertaining to the onboarding of new business.
  • Leads key projects to support the success achievement of our business growth strategies.
  • Prepares and presents reports to the STC senior management team and Board of Directors.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

What do we expect from you?

  • Degree in Business Management or relevant field;
  • Minimum 5 years experience within the Trust Services industry;
  • Minimum 5 years of experience and advanced knowledge of relevant legislation for Will, Estate and Trust administration;
  • STEP or MTI designation would be an asset;
  • Business development and trust services sales experience and proven track record for growth;
  • Technical proficiency related to wealth planning strategies such as insurance, philanthropy, taxation;
  • Developed and executed successful business strategies aligned with an enterprise vision;
  • Excels at fostering strong business partnerships internally and in the market, including industry associations and third parties;
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and performance metrics;
  • Excellent and impactful written and oral skills, including the ability to make persuasive presentations, effectively negotiate, navigate conflict, and rapidly weigh all opinions to determine the best-fit approach.
  • Travel will be required.
