About the role
Full-time Seasonal
Location: This position requires travel throughout Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta 14 days onsite, 7 days off site- Shift and cycles subject to change depending on project needs.
Reporting to the Foreman, the Labourer maintains and repairs railway tracks. Duties can include replacing and repairing various track components including rails, railway ties, and fences and adjusting the alignment and the surface of the track as well as responding to emergencies and track outages.

Job Requirements
- Flexibility: Ability and willingness to travel to remote work locations as needed.
- Shift Availability: Be prepared to work all shifts.
- Self-Sufficiency: Support yourself until your first paycheck arrives and willingness to SHARE a hotel room.
- Valid (non-GDL) Class 5 Driver’s License: You’ll need a non-GDL valid class 5 driver’s or Class G license at minimum plus a clean driver’s abstract to operate company vehicles.
- Metatarsal Work Boots: Willingness to invest in 8-inch metatarsal work boots (not basic work boots) for safety.
- Fit-For-Duty: Pass criminal record check, drug and fitness screening, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
- eRailSafe badge: Pass all required eRail badge training and testing.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- This work involves:
- pulling track spikes
- applying rail anchors
- shoveling crushed rock
- bending & lifting to 50 lbs on a regular basis
- repetitive tasks
- Various loading and unloading of heavy materials such as tools and equipment (spikes, tie plates, joint bars etc.) to and from various vehicles and machine
- Prepare, use and maintain various common and specialized hand tools for assigned work
- Correct deviations in track surface, alignment and gauge
- Clearing railway crossings of brush and tall grass using handheld tools and equipment
- Removal of tie plates from the rail
- Snow removal
- Occasional driving of company vehicle
