POSITION OVERVIEW
Machine Operators contribute to overall production by programming and loading automated machinery to process egg varietals appropriately, in a timely manner, and with minimal loss.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure continuous production, optimizing machine output by meeting the required line speeds while maintaining quality of product.
- Schedule product runs and inform appropriate team members of daily production schedules to complete orders accurately and on time.
- React promptly to problems with the machine or production delays and resolve issues quickly and efficiently.
- Set up machine and assign size of eggs to packing heads throughout both shifts.
- Shut down and inspect the machine at end of day making sure the machine is cleared of product.
- Count cartons and full skids to ensure orders are completed accurately.
- Ensure established bio security procedures are followed.
- Ensure continuous and smooth operation of the machine throughout the shift, exhibiting and cultivating a team mentality.
- Inform immediate Supervisor and/or QC of any conditions that could affect food safety.
- Live by the company’s mission, vision, and values.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with all levels of staff.
- All other duties as assigned by the Production Supervisor or Plant Manager.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English and basic math skills. Grade 12 education preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of and experience in egg production line work is required.
- Must be fluent in all positions of production (machine operator, multi-caser, loader, stacker, etc.).
- Must have excellent knowledge of egg grading machinery, preferably with a 530 Grading Machine.
- Demonstrated knowledge of all types of eggs, including the many different varieties of specialty eggs.
- Prior supervisory experience preferred; proven ability to motivate and lead.
- Prior forklift and/or pallet jack experience preferred.
- Must be able to follow set procedures and efficiently and effectively prioritize and organize work.
- A strong mechanical aptitude and good problem-solving skills are required, as is an understanding of computers and electronics.

The incumbent will be working in a proprietary environment. Policies and procedures are shared between Golden Valley Foods Ltd. and the L.H. Gray & Son group of companies. Discussion of these with non-Golden Valley Foods and L.H. Gray affiliated employees is strictly forbidden. Some specific policies can be shared with Fresh Start as Golden Valley Foods owners.

Report any accidents/incidents to supervisor.

This is a 1 year contract position.
Shift schedule is 3:30pm-10:30pm M-F
35 hours per week

Sparks Egg Inc. is a leading supplier of farm fresh eggs to Calgary, Edmonton and surrounding areas. Our Grading Station handles approximately 50% of Alberta's egg production, processing eggs from over 70 Alberta egg producers.
Our facility for production, grading, packaging, marketing and storage is approximately 37,000 square feet. Processing and packaging is handled by state-of-the-art grading equipment at speeds of 250 to 400 cases - 7500 to 9000 dozen eggs - per hour, this amounts to more than one million eggs per day!
