As a Strategic Analyst with the Corporate Data & Analytics, you will work to help members from all levels of the Calgary Police Service (CPS), the Calgary Police Commission, City of Calgary, Government of Alberta Government, Statistics Canada, and other partners, by conducting research and analysis on crime, disorder, and criminal justice issues to support strategic, tactical, and operational planning for the Service. Primary duties include:

  • Conduct analyses, provide guidance and make recommendations in relation to a variety of topics from across the Service to inform strategic decision making.
  • Support resource deployment, strategic planning and problem solving, crime prevention/reduction and tactical/operational intervention through the evaluation of historic activity, the identification of current crime trends and activity patterns as well as the development and deployment of predictive techniques.
  • Initiate and support corporate statistical reporting requirements, requests, and processes.
  • Employ socio-demographic and spatial factors to better understand patterns and trends in calls for service, disorder and crime.
  • Design and conduct practical studies and evaluations on crime, disorder, business processes and organizational issues (including literature reviews, defining hypotheses, identifying appropriate data sources, creating methodologies, analyzing results, and presenting findings/recommendations).

Qualifications

  • A degree in Social Science or related field and a minimum of 3 years analytical experience within a criminal justice or public sector government context; OR
  • A master's degree and a minimum of 1 year of analytical experience within a criminal justice or public sector government context.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel), Business Intelligence (BI) tools with relational databases, analytical and programming languages (e.g., Structured Query Language- SQL, DAX, Python) and Geographic Information Systems (ArcGIS).
  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience working with complex datasets and employing inferential statistical techniques for large scale organizations with diverse lines of business.
  • Working knowledge with Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Niche, and Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) will be considered assets.
  • Success in this position requires strong analytical and statistical skills, change management, coaching and development and efficiency and thoroughness. An effective communicator with a focus on results and the ability to build strong relationships.

Working Conditions: Exposure to graphic and sensitive information.

  • An enhanced security clearance and pre-employment polygraph will be conducted.
  • Applicants will be tested for appropriate skills.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Location: 5111 47 Street N.E.

Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $47.01 - 62.84 per hour

Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day

work week with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
