Opportunities are now available for those who have a passion for creating recreation and play opportunities for children in our Recreation Centres! Join our energetic team that provides recreation opportunities across the City of Edmonton in our Active Living School program.
Active Living School is a week-long program, where students from Kindergarten to Grade 6, participate in a variety of physical activities, learn about the pool and arena, and explore all the different amenities the Recreation Centres have to offer! Recreation Program Leaders will be a Host to the school group for the full week, leading the students through facility tours, physical activity sessions, games and more! The program runs select weeks during the school year from Monday to Friday during the weekday.
What will you do?
- Lead a class of school aged children in a variety of activities, games, journaling and facility tours
- Lead children/youth in recreational activities such as volleyball, basketball, soccer, pickleball, badminton, and/or obstacle courses
- Ensure the safety of participants while ensuring activities are progressive, challenging and can adapt to varying levels of skills
- Deliver high quality, adaptable and inclusive programs for students of all abilities
- Promote development of fundamental movement skills, physical competence and self confidence
- Create a safe, positive and welcoming environment where participants can thrive while developing physically, cognitively and socially
- Promote the benefits of healthy living and physical activity
- Ability to use program materials and equipment safely
- Provide outstanding customer service to participants, teachers, families and patrons
- Create a positive workplace environment through respectful interactions with all recreation facility staff
- Maintain program related paperwork, such as attendance, evaluations and incident reports
- Attend training as required
- Other related duties as required
Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 12 or high school equivalent
Assets:
- Experience leading recreation or sport based programming for children and youth
- Knowledge in High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development and Canadian Sport for Life Fundamentals
Skills required for success:
- Ability to lead, organize, instruct and supervise group activities
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with program users and staff
- Ability to teach progressive sport skill development for all ages and abilities
- Provide excellent customer service and the ability to handle difficult situations
- Alignment to our Cultural Commitments and Leadership Competencies
- Embracing a Culture of equity, diversity, reconciliation and inclusion
- Applicants may be tested
Conditions of Employment:
- Possession of valid Intermediate First Aid and CPR Level C Certification
- Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
