About the Opportunity
The Medical Laboratory Technologist C (MLT-C) is responsible (in collaboration with key partnerships) for the assessment, implementation, planning, evaluation, and supportive application of existing and new clinical knowledge and the translation of knowledge to practice. The prime focus of the MLT-C is to coordinate, support, maintain and deliver competency based interprofessional educational curriculum in partnership with curriculum leads (Departments/Divisions of Faculty of Medicine, Nurse Educators, other Clinical Educators) via classroom, procedural skill/task training, simulation learning, clinical learning, and/or online learning strategies, while advancing practice. They will be working with Mangers & Senior Technologist to Develop Zonal Competency, Training documents, SOP’s, develop competency schedules, Assist with Audits, Develop KPI’s and Review QC with Sr Tech/Mangers. The MLT-C practices according to the Registered Health Professionals Network Act, and in accordance with profession specific acts/legislation, their professional regulatory body and in accordance with Standards of Practice. Training in all Core competencies (BB/HEME/Chemistry) or willingness to train
The Medical Laboratory Technologist C (MLT-C) is also responsible for the oversight, implementation, maintenance, and auditing of POCT. They shall have the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to assist in the evaluation, selection, implementation, and ongoing quality management of POCT. The Technical Specialist exercises initiative and leadership. The Technical Specialist will work closely with IT, Pathology informatics and other NSHA technical specialists responsible for POCT. The MLT-C will participate in a collaborative approach working with the Service Chiefs, Management and multi-disciplinary teams to support the administrative and technical functions of POCT. They will have up to date knowledge and understanding of accreditation POCT standards as well as best practices as they relate to POCT. The MLT-C will participate on a variety of committees and communicate on a regular basis with medical/scientific and technical staff at all levels.
The MLT-C demonstrates competency in practice, program design and implementation, monitoring and evaluation of education, leadership, and professional practice. They exhibit the knowledge, attitudes and behaviors that align with the Interprofessional Practice and Learning Framework. This framework is grounded in theories of adult and concept-based learning, practice development, fundamentals of care and collaborative learning and practice.
Please note this position requires periodic travel to facilities within Western Zone Nova Scotia. A valid driver’s license and access to transportation is required.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Graduate from an approved program in Medical Laboratory Technology required
- Three years’ related experience required
- Current registration with CSMLS and NSCMLT required
- Must have experience in all three disciplines of MLT role (these include: Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, and Transfusion Science)
- Leadership Development Education an asset
- Adult Education Program an asset
- Simulation Education Program an asset
- Must be able to recognize abnormal situations and respond appropriately
- Previous experience with Blood Collection is preferred
- Must have demonstrated strong customer service skills; leadership skills; excellent organization and technical skills; as well as good decision-making skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally
- Experience with Microsoft office Excel an asset
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
- Experience with POCT preferred
- Ability to analyse and interpret laboratory statistical data and monitor quality and performance indicators and benchmarks
- Strategic planning and systems thinking
- Critical thinking and analytical problem solving
- Experience in policy and procedure development
- Advanced computer skills and skills in data management
- experience in Positive Patient ID and Data Integrity is an asset
- Strong project and time management skills
- Must have demonstrated strong interpersonal and leadership skills; excellent organization and technical skills; as well as good decision-making skills

Compensation and Benefits
$38.91 - $48.42 Hourly
