Position Description

The McGill University Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position as a Clinician-Teacher at the rank of Assistant Professor. This is a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure.

The McGill University Health Centre is one of McGill’s major teaching hospitals affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Canada’s internationally renowned McGill University, located in the vibrant and multicultural city of Montreal, in the province of Quebec.

The Division of Rheumatology is committed to providing state-of-the-art care for patients with rheumatic diseases. The division prioritizes care to those with complex inflammatory diseases in order to support our researchers in those domains.

. Our career path definitions specify typical ranges of time allotted to clinical work, teaching (clinical and didactic), research and administration.

As a Clinician-Teacher, the successful candidate’s major non-clinical focus will be on teaching the next generation of physicians. Teaching activity will include both didactic and clinical teaching and well as participation in the administrative aspects of the residency and/or fellowship training programs such as serving on committees.

The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of students and residents and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Clinical responsibilities will include outpatient clinics with a focus on rheumatoid arthritis and associated clinical research, general rheumatology and seeing patients on the consultation service.

McGill’s outreach activities servicing the RUIS will be integral to this position, with an expectation of providing remote clinical consultations to underserviced areas of the province.

The incumbent will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of graduate students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education requirements

Candidates must:

  • Hold an MD degree and must hold, or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec;
  • Have completed specialty training in Adult Rheumatology;
  • Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) in Rheumatology;
  • Be certified by the Collège des médecins du Québec;
  • Have at least one additional year of clinical and /or research training in the area of rheumatoid arthritis;
  • Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec. Candidates should be able to interact in English and in French with patients, families and health care professionals.
