About the role
Family Practice ROS (200-1103)
Reference Number
200-1103
The Gabriola Medical Clinic, located on Gabriola Island in the unceded territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation, is an award winning, community owned, physician operated clinic, looking for family doctors to join our multi-disciplinary team.
The Gabriola Medical Clinic is a quintessential medical home. The clinic houses family doctors (3 full time), a nurse practitioner (1 full time), a MHSU team, community home care nurses and visiting specialists. Our practitioners are dedicated to full scope primary care, which in our rural community includes low volume emergency medicine/urgent care. We offer an excellent opportunity to hone skills and build experience for doctors interested in a diversity of practice. We have dedicated long-term staff who provide amazing administrative support.
We are a formal UBC residency teaching site and welcome new energy and new ideas from our learners and team members. As a chapter of the Rural and Remote Division of Family Practice we have local and provincial support in the development of a Primary Care Network (PCN) and local projects in areas of interest.
We are looking for a physician to take new patients from the wait list and support the unattached population in our community. During the transition to a full panel, the physician will work with patients of the clinic to support reduced waiting times and improve access for existing patients. The rural nature of our practice means patients tend to be older, medically complex and more dependent on local care.
Each clinician provides same day/urgent/emergency care one clinic day per week, and in-clinic primary care 3 days per week. After hours urgent and emergency care is provided in partnership with BC Ambulance on a 1:4 call schedule.
The full-time contract is 1680 hours annually. The panel target is approximately 800 patients.
We can provide an excellent transition for a new to practice physician. A joining physician will be able work in a supportive, well-resourced clinic, operating under an excellent compensation model.
Remuneration:
- Alternative Payment Plan (APP) Contract administered through Island
- General Practice Full Scope (Rural) - Area
- Additional compensation for on-call services are paid through a MOCAP Level 2 contract
- Locums are available through the Rural Locum Program – 33 days per year as a C Rural Community, or can be paid through available contract hours
Overhead:
- Overhead support of $75,000 annually is provided to each contracted position
We are happy to provide further financial details to interested candidates.
Start Date:
- Summer 2026
Hours of Work:
- Monday to Thursday 9 am to 4 pm
- Friday - 9 am to 3 pm
- Sat/Sun - Closed
Benefits:
May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including:
- Relocation up to $15,000
- Recruitment Incentive $10,000
- Fee Premium – 5.95%
- Annual Flat Fee - $9,220.80
- Rural CME starting at $2,200/annum in year 3&4 in community, increasing to a maximum of $4,400/annum after 4 years.
The above amounts are current as of December 2024 and may be subject to change.
