ABOUT THIS POSITION:
As the Payroll Manager you will be required to oversee the payroll team, ensure the timely and accurate processing of all payroll operations. You will be an acting business partner to liaison with employees and other managers. The responsibilities of this position are complex and require experience in many facets of payroll operations.
KEY JOB FUNCTIONS
• Manage day to day activities of the payroll team and supporting by coaching as needed
• Serve as a technical liaison with internal contacts, functional managers and government
agencies
• Plan and control payroll projects, system software with the overall goal of process improvement
• Preparing payroll reports and remittances for taxes and other deductions.
• Reconcile and sign-off on payroll submission, liability G/L accounts and make monthly
adjustments were necessary
• Assist with the payroll processing to meet deadlines – take the “player-coach” approach
• Addressing and resolving payroll discrepancies and issues, especially escalations
• Conduct and report on regular internal audits to ensure compliance and measure accuracy
• Advising stake-holders on legislative changes in a timely manner
• Ensure all payroll-related tax remittances (e.g., tax withholdings, EHT, and WSIB) are completed
promptly.
• Prepare and submit all annual returns in a timely manner
• Additional duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Greater than 10 years of payroll experience in large professional services environment with at least 5 years managerial experience.
- Payroll CPM Certificate required.
- Experience leading a payroll team and acting as a mentor
- Ability to interact with all levels of the organization in a highly professional manner
- Experience in accounting/reconciliations of payroll liabilities accounts and knowledge of Payroll GL.
- Advanced working knowledge of ADP WFN payroll system
- Advanced expertise in Excel, other IT tools and protocols
- Complex payroll knowledge
- Deal with Government agencies CRA, RQ, Service Canada.
- Source deductions (CPP, EI)- balancing to report, cheque requisitions, maintain running total to balance to T4.
