Course Information

Students will conduct a pedagogical inquiry following pedagogical documentation processes. Final product will include the curation of the pedagogical inquiry. .5 credit This course is taught online (synchronous and asynchronous).

The Faculty of Education invites applications for a Limited Duties Instructor to teach Research Capstone in Early Childhood Education, Part 2 in the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) program. This course provides teacher candidates with the opportunity to conduct a pedagogical inquiry following pedagogical documentation processes, culminating in the curation and presentation of their inquiry as a final product.

The successful candidate will guide teacher candidates through the pedagogical inquiry process, support their development of research questions and documentation strategies, and mentor them as they reflect on and share their learning and inquiry outcomes. The course emphasizes practitioner-based research situated in early childhood education contexts.
Prepare and deliver course content in alignment with the approved course objectives and learning outcomes.

Develop the course outline in consultation with the course coordinator and in accordance with Faculty guidelines.

Support teacher candidates in the design and implementation of their pedagogical inquiry projects, including inquiry framing, pedagogical documentation, and curation of the final product.

Facilitate learning through a combination of synchronous (real-time) and asynchronous teaching activities, as applicable.

Provide timely, constructive feedback on student work and support teacher candidates throughout the inquiry process.

Promote a reflective, inquiry-based, and inclusive learning environment that fosters teacher candidate success and well-being.

Assess student work and assign final grades in accordance with university policies on academic integrity, assessment, and feedback.

Communicate effectively with the course coordinator (if applicable) and the Teacher Education Office regarding course progress, student concerns, or any issues related to course delivery.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for all activities associated with the successful delivery of the course, including but not limited to: developing, preparing, and delivering the course; setting and marking examinations, assessing the academic work of students, and reporting grades.

Candidates must be willing to undertake training as required by the Employer including, but not limited to, training in respect of health and safety, harassment and discrimination, and legislated service standards.

Qualifications

Qualifications (Minimum Required):

  • Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in Early Childhood Education or a closely related field.
  • Teaching experience in the Primary/Junior divisions.
  • Demonstrated record of effective teaching performance at the post-secondary or teacher education level.
  • Knowledge of and experience in conducting pedagogical inquiry, school-based research, or action research within the field of early childhood education or a related area.
  • Familiarity with pedagogical documentation processes and approaches to curating and presenting pedagogical inquiry projects.
  • Understanding of research design, data collection, and analysis methods appropriate for practitioner inquiry, action research, and pedagogical documentation.

Preferred Qualifications / Assets:

  • Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification in good standing (current) or held within the last five years.
  • Doctorate in Curriculum Studies or related field with a focus in early childhood education.
  • Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) specialist certificate in primary education or related area.
  • Experience supporting teacher candidates or educators in applied research projects.
  • Experience teaching in online environments, including both asynchronous and synchronous formats.
  • Demonstrated use of innovative and effective approaches to online teaching and learning.

Course offerings could be assigned to the workload of full-time faculty or to part-time faculty with seniority or preference rights in accordance with the Faculty Collective Agreement, or left unfilled based on operational/enrolment requirements. All positions are subject to budget approval.
