Instructional Assistant, Computer Applications

Selkirk College School of Hospitality & Tourism, on the Tenth St campus in Nelson, is seeking an Instructional Assistant for in-person support of instructors and students in the Computer Applications course for the Fall 2025 semester. This course provides students with an introduction to computers and Microsoft application software including Word and Excel.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assisting the class instructor to create and maintain a positive and practical learning environment;
  • Promoting student learning and stimulating interest in the subject matter
  • Providing support in the classroom and additional student contact as required;

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Demonstrated ability to teach;
  • A solid understanding of the Hospitality & Tourism industry;
  • Excellent communication, team work, and time management skills;
  • Proficient computer skills and experience (including Microsoft Word, Excel);
  • Working knowledge of Moodle or other Learning Management System or experience in online delivery an asset;
  • Ability to relate with a diversity of students from multiple cultural backgrounds.

Education and Experience

  • Must have three (3) years in the hospitality industry with a combination of post-secondary education and experience equaling a minimum of nine (7) years;
  • Must have a minimum of a Diploma in a related field, however preference may be given to those with a Degree or Masters in a related discipline;
  • Previous teaching experience in a post-secondary environment an asset;
  • Provincial Instructional Diploma or equivalent an asset;

This is a non-regular, part-time (10%) position, commencing September 9, 2025, and ending December 19, 2025**. Salary and Benefits are in accordance with the BCGEU Collective Agreement. The salary range is $2,210.65 - $3,542.46 bi-weekly (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications and experience.**
