Position Details
Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture – Government of Newfoundland and Labrador
Reporting to the Centre for Agriculture and Forestry Centre Manager, this is a professional, managerial level position responsible for the operational activities of the Centre. Responsibilities include: infrastructure maintenance and construction, maintaining inventory of supplies, peat harvesting logistics, tree seedling and vegetable transplant delivery, aspects of the Certified Seed Potato Program, operation and maintenance of climate control system, management of all fleet and associated equipment including monitoring and calibration of all equipment and keeps detailed records of equipment and infrastructure condition. This position also Co-Chair’s the Centre’s Occupational Health and Safety committee, supervises and coordinates duties of Equipment Operator’s, Silviculture Workers, Heavy Equipment Technician, and Carpenter. Additionally, this position assists with 24-hour on-site monitoring of crops/security, works with all staff (MOS and GS) on human resource and Collective Agreement issues/concerns and liaison’s with the other manager’s within the department on projects and/or plans to meet the needs of the agriculture and forest Industry. This position is responsible for all purchasing needs for the site and works with the Clerk on sourcing, ordering and payment of all supplies on site (consumables and capital). This position works with the Nursery Manager/Director on all budget and administrative details, including all operational budget and salary monitoring. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, time management, communication and leadership skills.
Screening Criteria
- Completion of a natural resource related diploma (equivalencies of education and experience will be considered)
- Supervisory experience
- Experience with crop production (trees and/or agriculture crops)
- Experience with biosecurity (asset)
- Experience in an industrial trade (electrical/mechanical) (asset)
Assessment Criteria
- Knowledge of crop production (trees and/or agriculture crops)
- Knowledge of industrial trades (electrical/mechanical) (asset)
- Knowledge of OH&S and Safe Work Practices
- Knowledge of biosecurity (asset)
- Supervisory
- Problem Solving
- Ability to effectively communicate
- Ability to manage time and tasks
- Professionalism
Conditions of Offer
- Proof of valid Class 5 Driver’s license
- As part of the 24-hour on-site crop/alarm monitoring/security this position is required to live in onsite residence, with the condition of some after-hours monitoring.
Conditions of Acceptance
- Willing to accept occasional travel
