Course Information
To develop their capacities as prospective teacher researchers in intercultural and foreign contexts, Teacher Candidates explore culture and cross-cultural communication under conditions of heightened mobilities, global connections and colonial legacies. By examining anthropological, literary and media representations of culture, travel and encounter, teacher candidates consider forms and methods of teacher inquiry/research aimed at enhancing practices of global and international education. Based on the coursework, Teacher Candidates will revise, carry out and present the results of their practitioner research plan as their culminating work in the course. .5 credit This course is taught online (synchronous and asynchronous).
The Faculty of Education at Western University invites applications for a Limited Duties Instructor to teach Research Capstone in Teaching and Learning in Intercultural Contexts, Part 2, offered in the final term of the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) program.
This course supports teacher candidates as they complete a practitioner inquiry project focused on international, global, and intercultural education. Building on earlier coursework, teacher candidates engage with interdisciplinary perspectives—including anthropology, media, and literature—to critically examine culture, colonial legacies, and cross-cultural communication in education. Candidates will refine, implement, and present a research-informed project that explores intercultural teaching practices and global education.
Prepare and deliver course content that aligns with the learning outcomes and goals of the capstone course.
Develop the course outline in consultation with the course coordinator (if applicable) and in accordance with Faculty requirements.
Support teacher candidates in refining, conducting, and presenting their practitioner research in the field of intercultural, international, or global education.
Facilitate online synchronous and asynchronous learning activities that encourage deep reflection and critical inquiry.
Provide timely, constructive feedback on student research and final presentations.
Promote an inclusive and reflective learning environment that supports teacher candidate success and well-being.
Assess student work, assign final grades, and comply with Western University policies on academic integrity and assessment.
Communicate regularly with the Teacher Education Office or course coordinator to ensure consistency across offerings.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for all activities associated with the successful delivery of the course, including but not limited to: developing, preparing, and delivering the course; setting and marking examinations, assessing the academic work of students, and reporting grades.
Candidates must be willing to undertake training as required by the Employer including, but not limited to, training in respect of health and safety, harassment and discrimination, and legislated service standards.
Qualifications
Qualifications (Minimum Required):

Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in international, global, intercultural, or comparative education.

Teacher certification
-
Demonstrated teaching experience at the elementary or secondary level.

Knowledge of and/or experience in school- or community-based research, action research, or practitioner inquiry within global, international, or intercultural contexts.
Preferred Qualifications / Assets:
- Ph.D. or Ed.D. in international, intercultural, or global education, or a related field.
- Experience mentoring teacher candidates or educators in applied research or inquiry projects.
- Demonstrated record of effective teaching performance in teacher education or equivalent contexts.
- Experience teaching or studying in more than one country
