What We Are Looking For As a registered nurse, you will become an integral member of the critical care team, responsible for providing compassionate, patient and family centered care. The Critical Care Course currently has openings for the September 2025 intake , for which Oak Valley Health will pay for your tuition and time. The course is an opportunity for registered nurses interested in working in the Critical Care Unit or Resource Team – Critical Care, to develop their knowledge and skills in preparation for a career in critical care at Oak Valley Health's Markham site. We are considering full-time and part-time applications at this time. Applicants will be required to indicate which area they are applying to during the application process.
Upon Successful Completion Of The Critical Care Course, You Agree To Commit To a Period Of Twenty-four (24) Months Of Employment At Oak Valley Health In The Critical Care Unit Or Resource Team – Critical Care. If You Resign During This Twenty-four (24) Month Period Or Decrease Your Status (from Full-time To Part-time Or Casual Or Part Time To Casual) You Will Reimburse Oak Valley Health For The Tuition Fees Paid By The Hospital According To The Following Schedule
6 Months or Less 100% of Tuition Paid
6+ to 12 Months 50% of Tuition Paid
12+ to 24 Months 25% of Tuition Paid
The Hospital is authorized to deduct fees owing from your wages.
If you do not successfully complete the program, you will not be eligible to work in the Critical Care Unit. We will endeavor to transfer you to another unit within the Markham site based on needs and your clinical experience and skills. In addition you will be required to reimburse Oak Valley Health the full amount of the cost of tuition.
About The Unit And The Role The Critical Care Unit at Oak Valley Health is an exciting area to work, where you are guaranteed to expand on your knowledge and skills. Our unit receives largely medical/surgical cases and is composed of both level 2 and level 3 critical care areas. We are supported by Critical Ontario, allowing us to accept life or limb patients. We also have a critical care response team (CCRT) designed to provide care to the most acute and complex patients throughout the hospital, reduce readmissions and contribute to the learning of our care partners in other clinical areas. The scope of practice in the CCU recently expanded to include sustained low efficiency dialysis (SLED), allowing our patients to receive even more comprehensive treatments at the right place, with the right team, at the right time.
Successful applicants who are applying for the Resource Team – Critical Care will be hired into the Resource Team – Critical Care and have priority shifts in the Critical Care Unit, Emergency Department, Telemetry, and Stepdown areas.
As the team continues to grow, there are many development opportunities for its members. The successful candidate, upon completion of the course, will practice in an environment that upholds excellence in professional practice and customer service. You will develop, implement and evaluate care plans. Using your clinical expertise and in collaboration with the inter-professional team, you will be responsible for delivering excellent care that is holistic and patient/family centered.
What You Bring To The Role
- Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- A minimum of 1 year of current acute care nursing experience or ICU or Emergency Consolidation within the past year
- Excellent physical assessment skills
- Current BCLS with a commitment to complete ACLS certification within 6 months after hiring
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and continuing education within the last 2 years
- Demonstrated good attendance and performance record with the ability to maintain this same standard
- Demonstrated commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients and families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required.
Work Schedule Successful candidates will attend the full-time course, beginning in September 2025. Classes will take place Monday – Friday and typically run from 8am-4pm. To ensure success in the program, students must be able to attend all lectures and do 3-4 hrs of homework each night. Candidates must also successfully attend clinical rotations during the course which will be 12 hour days in the Critical Care Unit.
Upon successful completion of the full-time critical care course, the successful candidate must be available to work 12 hour day and night shifts, week-days and week-ends, with flexibility to cover additional shifts as required.

Range $40.27 - $57.73
