In this pivotal role, the successful incumbent will lead a team dedicated to driving financial performance and strategic decision-making across the hospital. You will be responsible for developing robust financial models, preparing insightful analysis, and providing actionable recommendations to executive leadership. As a key partner in the budgeting and forecasting process, you will collaborate with various departments to ensure alignment with our business objectives. Your expertise in financial reporting and analysis will be instrumental in identifying trends, risks, and opportunities that will shape our financial strategy. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of financial principles, and the ability to communicate complex financial concepts in a clear and compelling manner.

Skills & Abilities

  • Providing financial planning expertise to Operations Directors, Patient Service Managers, Patient Service Directors, Medical Directors, and Medical Managers
  • Developing and recommending principles, processes, and guidelines for budget preparation
  • Coordination of new initiatives and process redesign in support of SRHC’s strategic objectives and maximization of health system funding reform.
  • Experience with developing senior management materials, including monthly Management Discussion & Analysis, presentations, and briefing notes.
  • Demonstrated communication skills with the ability to articulate complex financial matters to a non-financial audience
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to identify trends, establish benchmarks, and provide credible analysis and business recommendations
  • Established planning and organizational skills with the ability to create integrated plans, influence outcomes, and engage multiple stakeholders
  • Capacity to build partnerships, work collaboratively, and effectively communicate to diverse groups both within and external to Southlake Health
  • Proven achievements with financial modeling and analysis, with sound corporate finance knowledge and a structured, data-driven approach to problem-solving
  • Advanced command of Microsoft Excel and well-versed in the use of PowerPoint, with the ability and desire to learn new applications
  • A results-focused and highly accountable individual, capable of working on multiple projects and delivering to aggressive deadlines with strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability in interpersonal, communication, diplomacy, coaching, facilitation, and team-building skills.
  • Self-directed, eager to learn, and resourceful, but not afraid to seek guidance

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, or Finance from an accredited educational institution.
  • Successful completion of a Master’s Degree in Business Management, finance, or a recognized equivalent from an accredited educational institution is an asset.
  • A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ financial management experience in a large complex organization with a focus on financial planning, performance analysis, and business support, working directly with management from operations.

Primary Responsibilities

Works with the CFO and Director of Finance to develop the annual operating and capital budgeting process at Southlake, including planning principles, process, and guidelines for budget and operational planning targets. In developing the budget, the Manager will consider the immediate and long-term financial planning objectives of the hospital, including working capital improvement goals and strategic investments.

  • Prepare presentations and written materials that summarize the monthly assessment of the hospital’s financial results and prospects for improvement in the future.

  • Leads the process of analyzing the monthly financial and statistical results and collaborates with other advisory teams to identify the principal root causes behind financial results

  • Works with the other advisory teams and Management on initiatives to improve operational results

  • Build and refine tools and processes to improve business intelligence, general organizational effectiveness, and senior management decisions (e.g., dashboards, reports, queries)

  • Manages and mentors a team of 7 Finance Analysts who advise and support Operations and Clinical Program Directors on financial and statistical matters; there is also the potential for the case costing team to report to the Manager as well, depending on the experience of the successful candidate.

  • Conducts employee performance reviews for direct reports and provides regular/timely feedback to employees

  • Assignment of Operations and Clinical programs for direct support for financial matters

  • Identifies training and development needs for direct reports, ensuring they possess the requisite technical and professional skills to be exceptional financial consultants

  • Leads the preparation of the quarterly and year-end financial/statistical Ontario Health/Ministry of Health/Ministry of Long-Term Care and other grantors submissions including the MIS trial balance and Health Data Collection Service (HDCS)

  • Works with Decision Support and Case Costing to improve data quality of year-end financial and statistical submissions, optimizing funding models

  • Other duties as assigned
