About the role

ALERT Inc. (Atlantic Environment Response Team) is one of only four marine response organizations certified by Transport Canada – Marine Safety under the Canada Shipping Act (2001). The role of ALERT is to provide marine oil spill response services and to mitigate the impacts within the Bay of Fundy and its coastline and while focusing on the safety of both responders and the public.

As an ALERT Warehouse Coordinator, you will contribute to the Oil Spill Response Team by leading warehouse operations, equipment maintenance and general labourer duties to support the ALERT team in maintaining response preparedness. You will be responsible for equipment inventory and ICS documentation. Your success in this position will be to operate independently, coordinating and directing maintenance scheduling within the ALERT warehouse.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Review all work orders, validate that the correct materials are available for response, and allocate materials to the work orders to inform managers that the required materials are ready and available for use when needed
  • Plan, organize, manage, and evaluate inventory management activities for ALERT. Source and order any materials not available in the warehouse; procure, allocate, and expedite delivery
  • Utilize maintenance and accounting software to track maintenance and operational activities. Contribute to budget development and participate in monitoring and stewarding to budget
  • Develop and implement inventory management procedures for material inspection process. Inspect materials for damage, overages, shortages, and ensure what is in stock is what is requested on the work order; verify sizing, material type, quantity, etc. Identify any shortages or replacements required and source them. Identify and tag any non-conforming materials; update appropriate database
  • Organize, oversee, and plan daily maintenance activities for dedicated contractor resources and warehouse activity. Execute on the planned maintenance schedule for all ALERT-owned response equipment including marine assets, oil skimmers and oil recovery systems, and 60,000+ feet of oil boom. Schedule and coordinate any third party/outsourced maintenance. Record work and report any deficiencies
  • Coordinate 3rd party contractors to perform basic and preventative routine maintenance on oil spill equipment to maintain in proper working condition. Equipment should be clean and ready for use when needed. Keep a clean and safe working environment and optimize space utilization
  • Maintain accountability for assigned personnel’s safety and welfare during exercises and in the event of an oil spill. Lead and direct certain response activities during an oil spill, deploying equipment as a staging site manager
  • Operate various machinery including forklift, small hand tools and hydraulic cranes

Your Skills:

  • Effective communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Follow instructions precisely and double check work before completing tasks
  • Knowledge of various industrial materials and equipment
  • Knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook, and other industry specific computer applications
  • Ability to develop strong relationships with a primary focus on listening and understands others' concerns regarding required equipment, tools, materials, etc. and acts on them

Your Experience:

  • 5+ years experience working in industrial or commercial marine setting
  • Minimum 2 years of spill response experience
  • Experience working in a warehouse or materials handling position is an asset
  • Experience working in trades in a heavy industrial environment is an asset
