POSITION: Tradesperson Mechanic
TYPE: Permanent, Full-time (10 hours/day, 4 days/week)
LOCATION: LSKYSD Bus Garage - North Battleford, SK
START DATE: September 2, 2025
COMPENSATION: $24.27 per hour starting wage
Salary, benefits and pension are in accordance with the current CUPE agreement.

Living Sky School Division is looking for a skilled and dedicated Tradesperson Mechanic to join our team in our bus garage. This position plays a key role in keeping our transportation services running smoothly and efficiently.
Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on school buses to ensure the safety and reliability of our fleet. If you are someone who is dedicated to safety and wants to contribute to the success of students, please read on!
Qualifications & Experience
- Perform scheduled maintenance (oil changes, filter replacements, tire inspections)
- Conduct safety inspections to meet provincial and federal standards
- Diagnose and complete minor repairs on engines, brakes, electrical, and more
- Use diagnostic equipment to scan and interpret vehicle codes (e.g., Cummins INSITE, Allison DOC)
- Maintain service records and track parts usage
- Work with a team to ensure fleet reliability and readiness
- Proven hands-on experience with school buses, heavy-duty vehicles, or in a mechanical repair shop is a strong asset. This background brings valuable knowledge of vehicle maintenance, safety standards, and shop operations.
Required Qualifications
- Mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting skills
- Experience with gas and diesel engines (school bus experience an asset)
- Physically able to lift 60 lbs or more multiple times a day
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and clean 5-year abstract
- Basic electrical knowledge (asset)
- Welding/fabrication skills
- Must supply your own tools and CSA-approved work boots

Living Sky School Division encompasses a wide geographic area including the Battlefords, many communities, villages, First Nation communities, and Hutterite colonies. We are located in the heart of wheat and oil country.
Currently, 28 schools are located in 19 communities. Our schools include PreK-12, elementary, high schools, and alternate schools with a population of approximately 5,300 students.
