The Role:
Gibbons Whistler is seeking a strategic and detail-driven Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead our financial operations and contribute to our company’s long-term success. This executive leadership role is accountable for shaping and executing our financial strategy, ensuring fiscal discipline, and aligning financial planning with the company’s vision and growth goals.
The CFO will oversee all financial functions, including budgeting, forecasting, risk management, and financial reporting. They will serve as a key advisor on the Executive Leadership Team, providing insights that drive operational excellence and business performance. They will serve as a team-first leader who builds trust and develops talent within finance and cross-functional teams, exploring avenues for automation to drive efficiency, while using data analytics to support decision-making and performance improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with company goals and vision.
- Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, tax planning, and compliance.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Provide financial insights to support decision-making at the executive level.
- Manage cash flow, investments, and capital expenditures.
- Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and P&L management.
- Collaborate with department heads to drive financial performance and accountability.
- Lead budgeting and forecasting processes, ensuring financial stability.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks, ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Build and manage a high-performing finance team.
- Support growth initiatives, including acquisitions and new business ventures.
- Negotiating loans and lines of credit.
- Managing relationships with auditors and other external stakeholders.
- Other financial and operational matters as they arise.
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Strong background in financial planning, risk management, and strategic decision-making.
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian accounting standards and tax regulations.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Sage 300 and familiarity with POS, accounts payable, and inventory systems (e.g., Lightspeed, MarketMan, etc.) is preferred.
- Demonstrated success implementing financial systems and driving operational efficiency.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
- Reliable, collaborative, and highly organized.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
- Passion for the hospitality and tourism industry; familiarity with Whistler’s business landscape is a plus.
- Previous experience in hospitality, tourism, or food & beverage is preferred, but not required.
