The Department of Psychiatry, in the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary, invites applications for a Contingent Term appointment at the Professor level.

The successful candidate will be considered for the role of Director of the Mathison Centre.

Qualifications

  • MD and more than five years of additional research experience and eligibility for licensure in the province of Alberta.
  • An advanced degree and post-doctoral research experience are required.
  • Evidence of a track record of publications in high quality journals.
  • Evidence of an ability to collaborate, lead a research team, and effectiveness in teaching at the University level.
  • Strong publication record and demonstrated ability to attract peer-reviewed funding in the area of youth mental health.
  • Ability to develop a productive, externally funded research program, and fit with one or more of the ten Brain and Mental Health Teams of the HBI (HBI Research).
  • Demonstrated history of successful leadership in terms of establishing and/or running programs.

Responsibilities

  • Establish an active research program, integrated with clinical care during the unique developmental periods defined by childhood, adolescence, and emerging adulthood.
  • Lead an innovative clinical research program combining data from multiple levels of analysis in the prediction of treatment or disease outcomes.
  • Provide patients with access to clinical care.
  • Teach the next generation of health care professionals about conditions and illnesses that are treatable by demonstrating interventions through clinical teaching and supporting the learning of trainee physicians.
  • Engage in community outreach by providing medical expertise to health care planning and policy, and the continuous improvement of clinical care and academia.
  • Aid in bringing innovations into clinical and academic practice and generating new knowledge that can lead to the development of further new innovations.
  • The position provides 50% protected time for research and will include expectations to contribute to teaching as well as service to the department, faculty, Institute or University, particularly as this relates to advancing the area of child and adolescent mental health.
