Job Description DIRECTOR, FINANCE Fleet Renewal

The Opportunity In order to address the challenges brought on by constrained system capacity, aging major assets, and environmental sustainability, BC Ferries has recently launched a new Fleet Renewal organization that will see a large number of new major and minor vessels introduced to the fleet in the near term as well as significant builds and upgrades to shore-based infrastructure and facilities. These projects together form the largest capital investment in the company’s history.
The new position of Director, Fleet Renewal Finance will be a leadership position within the organizational structure, accountable for ensuring overall financial oversight of the entire Fleet Renewal scope of activities and will lead the Fleet Renewal Financial Team charged with executing those responsibilities. In this role, your c ore responsibilities include leading the development and execution of the financial strategy and plans required for the Fleet Renewal organization, overseeing all financial deliverables, and providing financial expertise to ensure the successful delivery, reporting and oversight for this challenging program of work .
As part of the Fleet Renewal leadership team, this position provides key advice to the Head of Fleet Renewal to enable effective organizational leadership. This position also acts as a key liaison between Fleet Renewal and the company's Finance Division to ensure alignment and consistency with corporate governance and controls.
The Role Role Reporting directly to the Head of Fleet Renewal this role is integral to the achievement of company objectives, and you contribute value through key areas of oversight such as:
- Leading all financial management, oversight and reporting activities for the Fleet Renewal organization
- Leading the development of business cases and capital / operating expenditures estimates for Fleet Renewal
- Leading the development and execution of finance and funding strategies and plans and providing strategic financial input on investment decisions that directly impact Fleet Renewal scope of work
- Reviewing and approving payment requests and forecasts to ensure that sufficient funding is available from the corporate, Fleet Renewal or relevant project budget, as appropriate
- Ensuring Fleet Renewal financial processes, activities and reporting align with BCFS overall financial strategy, corporate requirements and IFRS
- Responsible for Fleet Renewal financial risk management, with respect to scope, schedule and budget
- Responsible for overall program financial reporting, including KPI's to meet both Corporate and Fleet Renewal requirements
- Planning for and implement the allocation of labour and other expenses to capital and operational budgets as appropriate in accordance with accounting rules and guidelines, ensuring plans are approved and auditable
- Communicating requirements for resourcing, skills, and timing to corporate, and seeking corporate resources support and/or external consultants as needed for completion of Fleet Renewal work
- Providing direct financial support to enable procurement processes, including participating in contract negotiations
- Supporting the organization's financial reporting including internal audits
What You Bring To The Team
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or related discipline required
- Master’s degree in business administration, accounting, economics, finance, or related discipline preferred
- Certifications: CFA/CTP/CPA/FRM/FP&A is an asset
- 7-9 years progressive experience in business finance or treasury, or a related role
