About the role
Performs general custodial and janitorial work in active areas. May be required to perform general decontamination work as well as specific cleaning and disinfecting work in active area, handling and packaging of radioactive waste from all work areas in the active area, and maintains general supplies.
This position is deemed a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW). A Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) is defined by the Nuclear Safety and Control Act as a person who is required, in the course of the person’s business, or occupation in connection with a nuclear substance or nuclear facility to perform duties in such circumstances that there is a reasonable probability that the person may receive a dose of radiation that is greater than the prescribed limit for the general public (1 mSv per year for the whole body).
Key Responsibilities
- Work independently performing general custodial duties including: sweeping, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, waxing and stripping floors as necessary.
- Perform general decontamination work as directed including: equipment, facilities, surfaces, tools, and packages.
- Removes radioactive waste from the facility and packages it for disposal.
- Stocking cleaning supplies in the active area.
- Other related duties as required.
Additional Requirements
- Push and pull hand carts with a force of up to 25 kgs on an occasional basis
- Lift up to 5 kgs on a frequent basis and 10 kgs on an occasional basis
- Maintain simple records.
- Work with arms/hands on a frequent basis
- Availability to work the required shift(s) and overtime
- Participates in safety culture
Training Required : Must complete all required training and certification as a Nuclear Energy Worker
Qualifications
- Must have Grade 12 or appropriate experience.
Skills and Competencies
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must possess good interpersonal skills
- Capable of operating heavy moving equipment.
- Able to read and record readings of radiation detection devices.
