Job Description Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Our Asset Lifecycle Management office is looking for an Asset Lifecycle Model Specialist to increase Metrolinx resources/capabilities to deliver asset lifecycle cost models to ensure the Asset Management and Maintenance division can fulfill its mandate to develop, implement, and continuously improve the Metrolinx enterprise asset investment models.
In Asset Management and Maintenance, we play a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and cost-effective service of our transit system as the Metrolinx engineering technical authority and owner of more than $20 billion in assets and growing to $60 billion by 2030.

Reporting to the Asset Lifecycle Modelling Lead, this position is accountable for coordinating and implementing an enterprise asset investment models across all Metrolinx asset classes; working with business units to translate their asset strategies into the investment models; supporting business units in updating asset investment models on a yearly basis with current input data (e.g. asset inventory, cost, condition, etc.); and supporting business units to improve their model input data.
What will I be doing?
- Coordinates the Metrolinx asset investment model to assure the long-term sustainability of the Metrolinx asset base.
- Facilitates the review and definition of enhancements to the Metrolinx asset investment models which includes enhancing asset investment modelling based on industry-wide advancements, and advancements within Metrolinx business units (e.g. improvement in type of asset data collected).
- Supports in the implementation and continual improvement of a comprehensive asset reporting capability to meet internal/external stakeholder requirements, including development of dashboards to trend key performance indicators; and reports to meet the needs of business units internal to Metrolinx and the reporting requirements from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure Ontario.
- Improves existing and develops new tools to produce asset investment models, query asset inventory databases, and generate reporting outputs supporting the mandate of the Asset Lifecycle Modelling office.
- Generates and maintains data pipelines to channel information from various systems (ERP, GIS, inspection reports) into asset information models in near real-time.
- Provides a quality assurance and control function to audit and validate model outputs.
- Leads cross-functional workshops with asset managers, engineers, finance, and project management teams to align on modelling assumptions, data quality improvements, and investment priorities.
- Guides business units in updating their yearly asset management plans based on the output from the investment model.
- Supports initiatives with relevant academic institutions, governments, and private sector organizations to exchange information to advance asset investment modelling.
- Oversees relationships with suppliers and subcontractors for asset investment modelling, where applicable.
- Meets objectives, manages project and department activities, and monitors progress to ensure that planning objectives are delivered on time, within budget, and ensuring anticipated business results are achieved; able to explain off-plan overages and exceptions.
- Meets service delivery objectives and manages project budgets and department activities within budgetary limits.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Completion of a degree in Engineering, Economics, Business or a related discipline – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in Asset Management, including but not limited to: whole life cost modelling, asset investment modelling, asset investment planning; asset management performance monitoring; asset information systems, etc.
- Asset Management Certification or Diploma is preferred.
- Knowledge of ISO 55000: Asset Investment Planning & Management.
- Strong proficiency in data tools and technologies, including ETL processes, Python, Power BI, SQL databases, and data visualization.
- Proven ability to analyze complex datasets and optimize data workflows for actionable insights.
- Project management skills, including work planning, monitoring and evaluation expertise, to manage multiple projects with competing priorities and tight deadlines.
- Interpersonal and oral/written/presentation skills to liaise with all levels within the organization; to work effectively with specialists across multiple sectors.
- Organization skills to work as a team member and provide team leadership, and to work independently.
