Job Summary:
The Sioux Lookout First Nations Health Authority (SLFNHA) Officer – Communications will help develop communications materials, and coordinate media and/or public relations events. The Officer - Communications is responsible for performing a variety of technical duties, including, but not limited to, marketing, writing, editing, advertising, graphic design, and coordinating and preparing newsletters. The Communications Officer will be responsible for administrative duties, including daily media monitoring, maintaining media files and the media network, researching and preparing briefing notes, and providing other general support activities.

Salary Range: $68,778 to $100,438 per year
Location: Sioux Lookout
Qualifications:
• Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment).
• The ability to perform the requirements of the position on a regular basis.
• Ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects in the Sioux Lookout Zone; Anishinaabe or Anishininew language is an asset.
• Post-secondary degree or equivalent work experience in public/media relations, corporate communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field.
• A diploma or certificate in marketing is considered an asset.
• One to three years of direct/indirect related work experience
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge, awareness, and sensitivity to Indigenous culture and traditions within SLFNHA’s geographical catchment area.
• Understanding of the realities and challenges faced by First Nations people and communities.
• Strong knowledge of local, regional, and national current events and politics, particularly as they relate to the Sioux Lookout region.
• Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to address challenges effectively.
• Advanced technical proficiency in web content creation and management, photography, and graphic design.
• Excellent computer skills, including expertise in word processing, design, and other advanced software.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel for events, installations, or other organizational needs.
• Highly motivated and capable of thriving in demanding, fast-paced environments.
• Self-driven with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
• Intermediate knowledge and skills in AV technologies, including video conferencing, sound systems, displays, and networking.
• Willingness and ability to travel, as required.
• Able to complete the duties of the position on a regular basis
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Provide general Communications-related support to the organization.
• Marketing of the SLFNHA brand.
• Media monitoring and distribution.
• Maintenance of media contacts and network (partners/stakeholders)
• Liaise with print agencies to develop SLFNHA public service announcements and communication materials.
• Refer and respond (as appropriate) to public/media relations inquiries as directed.
• Assist in scheduling and coordinating meetings, news conferences, and other media or public relations events.
• Support the creation and maintenance of digital content, including intranet /website updates and social media messaging, to promote SLFNHA programs and initiatives.
• Assist in the monitoring and tracking of the Communications Inventory system.
• Implement and maintain an effective filing system for the Communications department reports, correspondence, documents, etc.
• Monitor, track and respond to internal communications requests.
• Organize planning sessions to support the development and implementation of communications plans.
• Support in the development of a work plan and the implementation of the SLFNHA Communications Strategy.
• Manages SLFNHA’s public relations, including both internal and external communications.
• Contribute to the design and enhancement of communication approaches and tools aimed at informing First Nation Communities and other key stakeholders.
• Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:
• It will require working some evenings, weekends, and holidays with notice.
• Considerable walking, standing, lifting, pulling, pushing and bending.
• Frequently/occasionally required to lift up to 30 lbs.
