JOB SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Director, Critical Care & Cardiology, the Nurse Practitioner (RN EC) provides comprehensive patient care using advanced assessment skills and a sound knowledge of clinical therapeutics.
To provide direct and indirect comprehensive patient care services to support patient care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
The Nurse Practitioner (RN EC) is responsible to promote professional practice and advance nursing knowledge through assessment of the learning needs of the front line staff and development of their skills to enhance the quality of patient care.
The Nurse Practitioner (NP EC) is responsible in promoting professional education through involvement in research and scholarly activities.
The Nurse Practitioner (RN EC) is responsible to support, promote, and lead through example, the adoption of the organization’s mission, vision and values.
The Nurse Practitioner (RN EC) complies with the Occupational Health and Safety standards for the hospital and is proactive in promoting a safe work environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Evidence of being a self-directed advanced practice nurse prepared at the graduate level who functions in an expanded role in a collaborative practice model

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all patients, staff and visitors

Demonstrates commitment to professional development and clinical leadership abilities

Willingness to participate in process improvement

Committed to courtesy in patient care and the values of the organization

Provides and evaluates holistic patient care based on advance nursing and medical management knowledge and skills for a select patient population (including inpatient, outpatient and community based patients) assigned to the Cardiology units.

Directs the development and implementation of basic and advanced educational programs for staff and self, as well as community and outside professionals and students, guided by concepts from relevant educational theory.

Provides specialized knowledge regarding patient / family problems and practice issues through the process of consultation of nurses, physicians and other members of the team. Both formal and informal consultation is provided to internal and external healthcare professionals, patients and families

Provides leadership in advancing nursing knowledge and practice through a range of research related activities

Involved in professional activities that allow for sharing and dissemination of knowledge in an area of expertise within the organization and externally to the community and the profession

Promotes professional education and advances knowledge through research and scholarly activities

Ability to work flexible hours as required

Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team approach and to adhere to accepted standards of personal conduct.

EDUCATION/TRAINING EXPERIENCE:

Registered Nurse in the Extended Class (RN, EC) with current Certification with the CNO with an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Certification – required

Advanced knowledge and current experience (3-5 years) as a Registered Nurse working with patients in an combined Level 3 Medical/Surgical Intensive Care Unit setting – required

Experience with CRRT – preferred
-
Current 2 years of experience as an ICU Nurse Practitioner – preferred
-
MScN preferred
-
Canadian Nurses Association Certification in critical care nursing an asset

Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills and able to perform duties under the Medical Directives of the Program
-
Current Basic Rescuer(C) recognized by the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, ACLS - required

Providing Acute Care Services with 650 plus beds and an operating budget of half of a billion dollars, Windsor Regional Hospital is one of the largest community based non-academic hospitals in the Province of Ontario.
