Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Access Services and Resource Sharing, this position works with the Resource Sharing team to accomplish daily workflows of Resource Sharing by maintaining the order of physical library collections and supporting users’ access to library materials. The Resource Sharing Assistant I position will become familiar with various equipment and library databases, e.g. Alma, Relais, scanning equipment.
The main responsibilities include library collection maintenance routines, including pick-up, sorting, shelving and shifting of physical materials; inter-departmental tasks; retrieving and scanning requested items to support borrowing and lending services; assisting users with access to materials and services, and contributing to a supportive and collegial team environment.

This position requires moving items throughout the building and accessing materials at various heights.

Job Requirements

Experience:

Previous experience in a similar position in a post-secondary, library, or institutional environment is preferred; an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing the principles of truth, reconciliation and respect, equity diversity and inclusion, and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with effective attention to detail and time management
  • Knowledge of library bibliographic records; familiarity with searching different libraries' catalogues to locate materials, assess holdings, and identify lending policies is an asset
  • Demonstrated experience in providing customer service
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the general public effectively and consistently while respecting confidentiality
  • Ability to work effectively in an independent or team environment
  • Computer and software proficiency (Microsoft Office suite, social media, web tools, Excel, databases)
  • Ability to organize and complete work assignments accurately and on-time while balancing competing demands
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population and with all levels of university personnel

Specialized Knowledge/Education:

Secondary school graduation or equivalent. Some Post-secondary education is preferred.
