Financial Analyst – Financial Analysis & Business Support

How you will make a difference:
Reporting to the Manager, Financial Analysis and Business Support, the Financial Analyst with a focus on budgets and planning will be responsible for providing financial reporting & analysis and financial insights, to support decision-making. This role is responsible for supporting budgeting, forecasting, pledge-to-cash analysis, and financial modeling, while also building dashboards and visualizations that translate data into meaningful insights. Provides support in the in the development of campaign programs, donor segments, grants, and community investment programs and provide analytical insight into the financial data.
Financial Planning & Analysis and Reporting
- Support department budget managers by analyzing program planning and how they align with business goals.
- Support the Manager with annual budget and multi-year financial planning processes through forecasting, scenario modelling and projections.
- Build positive relationships with departments to support Finance as a trusted advisor.
- Translate financial results and forecasts into clear insights to support decision-making.
- Perform variance and trend analysis to assist in monitoring financial performance.
- Analyze revenue channels and grant programs, compile spending and community investment data, and highlight trends and areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with departments (e.g. Community Impact and Donor Relations) to provide financial analysis and ROI insights for program and campaigns.
- Support analysis to evaluate how funds raised align with community impact and organizational goals.
- Prepare financial reports to ensure transparency and compliance to meet funder requirements.
- Assist in preparing and managing grant applications and reports.
- Prepare claims reimbursement from funding partners and ensure timely submission.
- Assist in the preparation of journal entries for submission to Controllership for processing.
- Identify and resolve financial discrepancies and present recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
- Ensure compliance with funding partner agreements.
- Provide support for financial audits by ensuring data accuracy and timely completion.
Business Intelligence & Reporting
- Assist in designing, developing, and maintaining dashboards and financial reports using Power BI and Excel.
- Serve as a key contact for Strategic Finance on business intelligence tools, supporting accurate and timely reporting of KPIs and financial results.
- Analyze fundraising data to identify trends and improve fundraising strategies.
- Support in developing storytelling and visualization techniques to communicate financial insights clearly to program managers and other stakeholders.
- Support ongoing improvements to reporting tools to enable easier self-service access to financial data.
- Improve reporting processes and reduce turnaround time for financial data requests.
- Other ad-hoc duties as required to meet business and department needs.
Process Improvement and Support
- Work with departments in understanding of financial goals and key metrics.
- Finance support to department in provide financial reporting and data for program planning, performance tracking and use of funds.
- Work closely with Transformation team to utilize systems for reporting and analysis.
- Support in data visualization, reporting, and analysis
What you bring to the role:
- Post secondary education in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or candidate preferred.
- Over 3 years of progressive experience in FP&A, Business Analytics, Accounting, Program Management or similar.
- Strong technical proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Power BI is essential.
- Familiarity with ERP and CRM systems (e.g., Sage Intacct, Salesforce) is desirable.
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial modelling.
- Experience in the not-for-profit sector or public sector is an asset.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills to interpret data.
- Enjoys collaborating with other departments, and values knowledge sharing.
- Excellent communication skills, presentation skills.
- A flexible and creative individual capable of managing multiple priorities and projects.
- Attention to detail, integrity, and accountability.
- Collaborative, customer-service and continuous improvement mindset.
