Energy Conservation Summer Student

The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB), Facility Services Department has been funded for one (1) Canada Summer Jobs 2025 position and is seeking an Energy Conservation Summer Student.

The position will report to the Supervisor of Energy Conservation. The incumbent will be part of a team that will assist in the Energy Conservation program at the WRDSB.

The successful candidates will work 40 hours per week, with the hours of work to be determined, for $20.00 per hour starting July 21, 2025, through to August 29, 2025.

Application must indicate if applicant has a driver’s license and their ability to access a vehicle.

Responsibilities:

· Setting up alerts in Real Time Energy Monitoring database.

· Surveying school buildings and drawings for energy conservation opportunities.

· Reviewing water and energy consumption data for completeness and correcting errors.

· Confirming accuracy of regression models and adjusting as necessary.

· Analyzing energy and water consumption data to find conservation opportunities.

· Performing basic engineering calculations on energy conservation opportunities.

· Other duties as assigned within Facility Services.

Requirements to participate in Canada Summer Jobs:

· Applicant must be between 15 and 30 years old

· Applicant must be legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid SIN card)

· Applicant must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment

Qualifications and Training required:

· Enrolled in a college or university physical sciences or engineering program.

· Experienced using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

· Experienced with AutoCAD and RETScreen Expert would be an asset.

· Have a valid Driver's license (access to reliable transportation is a significant asset).

Key Skills:

· Possess confidence, initiative, and excellent computer and organizational skills.

· Demonstrated ability to work independently and maintain high productivity.

· Have excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially with technical information.

· Demonstrate a genuine interest in and understanding of energy conservation and greenhouse gas emission reductions.
