About the role
Reporting to the Manager of Facilities and Support Services, Maintenance 1 will assist in general maintenance of hospital systems and structure. They will provide services that may include minor plumbing, electrical, pipefitting, carpentry, and drywall. They will work together with the maintenance team to resolve issues and ensure the safety of the workplace. The successful applicant will be required to work Monday-Friday 0800-1600, with on-call rotation on evenings and weekends. The successful applicant has a commitment of 75 hours per bi-weekly pay period.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Troubleshoot and repair problems, inspect, report, and repair damage to various systems; plumbing lines and fixtures, piping, heating, cooling and ventilating systems; mechanical patient care support services and wheeled equipment, etc.
- Perform daily boiler chemical tests, calculate impurities, mix chemicals, and add chemicals as necessary
- Monitor and respond to alarms
- Ensure the preventative maintenance of the hospital's buildings, utility systems, equipment and grounds including responsibility for renovations and structural changes to the hospital.
- Hospital fire prevention and fire safety
- Liaise with outside contractors, vendors and inspectors
- Assemble, install and relocate mechanical equipment
- Repair or replace, according to building codes, Canadian Standards Association (CSA) regulations on equipment, underwriters' regulations and other applicable codes in the care and maintenance of hospital equipment
- Inspect and repair large building equipment including but not limited to boilers, chillers, HVAC and life safety system
- Perform any other relevant duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma (or equivalent) required
- Diploma in related technical field preferred
- Trade certification in either HVAC, 4th Class Stationary Engineer, Plumber or Pipefitter required
- Previous Health Care facility experience an asset
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team member
- Able to work with minimal supervision, and to prioritize and perform duties reliably
- Previous preventative maintenance experience with air handlers and exhaust fans preferred
