As Leader, Water Project Development, you will be responsible for planning infrastructure and strategic initiatives for the water distribution network and water treatment plants, to achieve the Utilities' customer levels of service. Primary duties include:
- Plan, manage, and deliver a portfolio of technical engineering projects to ensure that infrastructure will accommodate population growth and meet current and future regulations and standards for reliability.
- Develop key performance indicators to track the performance of potable water infrastructure, identification of emerging service risks and the need for infrastructure investment. Report on risks, mitigation plans and infrastructure investments to management teams or Water Service Team.
- Collaborate with other leaders and managers to bring operational input, customer service levels, and delivery considerations together to inform planning outcomes and the strategic vision, prioritization, decision making of the team.
- Manage and develop professional/technical staff and ensure the hiring of qualified consultants to complete technical studies and analysis, feasibility assessments and conceptual designs of potable water infrastructure.
- Oversee and regulate engineering related work and activities for water infrastructure overseen by Water Project Development (WPD), as an APEGA Responsible Member. This includes validation of all authenticated engineering work products including technical memos, studies, calculations and engineering designs.
- Foster change and promote innovation in the planning and design of water systems, treatment processes, and engineering technologies across Water Utility.
- Build and foster networks and relationships with internal and external technical experts and operations staff to influence positive outcomes and the adoption of new technologies, approaches, and innovations.
Qualifications
- A degree in Engineering and at least 10 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work. - The successful candidate must be eligible to become an APEGA Responsible Member (RM) for the City of Calgary and must complete necessary requirements to become the RM within 6 months of starting the position.
- Strong technical knowledge of water treatment plants and/or linear systems is essential.
- Working knowledge of plant and/or linear system operations and maintenance is considered an asset.
- Experience in budgeting, performance measurement, cost benefit, and risk analysis is also an asset.
- A master's degree in a related field is an asset.
- Success is this position requires strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to lead change; ability to effectively communicate on technical, operational and business issues to multiple audiences; skills in critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, and project management; demonstrated ability to manage staff to achieve the goals of multidimensional work programs.

- This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. Such arrangements are based on the operational requirements of the position and employee suitability and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Compensation: Level M2E $148,900 - 186,100 per annum
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
