The Board Member for Technology & Innovation provides strategic oversight for digital infrastructure, innovation, and governance. This role supports EF’s mission by ensuring tech-forward, inclusive, and secure systems that enable scalable mentorship programs and virtual collaboration. The board member also advises on emerging technologies, cybersecurity, and tech strategy to ensure EF remains future-ready.

Responsibilities:

• Provide guidance on EF’s technology strategy, innovation roadmap, and digital governance practices
• Support cybersecurity protocols, data privacy, and overall systems integrity across platforms
• Evaluate emerging technologies and tools to improve EF Connect’s mentorship, recruitment, and virtual collaboration
• Advise the Director of Technology & Innovation on infrastructure needs, vendor tools, and digital optimization
• Help define and assess risk management plans related to technology and data security
• Represent EF publicly to highlight its innovation-forward model and build partnerships in the tech sector
• Attend monthly board meetings (virtual or in-person as scheduled) and contribute to key discussions and decisions
• Participate in at least one board committee or special project to support cross-functional initiatives
• Contribute to strategic planning and organizational oversight at the board level
• Assist with fundraising, outreach, and technology-focused community engagement efforts
• Act as an ambassador for Empowered Futures and champion the use of technology to amplify youth empowerment
• Provide governance, accountability, and fiduciary oversight as part of the board’s collective responsibility
• Collaborate with the Board Chair and Strategic Advisor to ensure technology strategy supports EF’s long-term goals and mission alignment

Qualifications:

• 5+ years of experience in technology strategy, innovation, digital transformation, or IT leadership
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Technology, or a related field required. Master’s degree or equivalent experience is an asset
• Strong understanding of cybersecurity, systems design, digital governance, and emerging tools
• Excellent communication and strategic thinking skills with the ability to advise technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Experience working with nonprofits, youth programs, or purpose-driven organizations is an asset
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote, volunteer-based setting
• Familiarity with tools such as Google Workspace, Airtable, Notion, Slack, or similar platforms
• Passionate about using technology to drive impact, youth development, and equitable access to support

This is a part-time and unpaid volunteer position (2-3 hours a week)

Attendance at all regular monthly board meetings (every 2nd Tuesday of the month).
