Casual on Call - No Guaranteed Hours
This position is at the L05 level with an hourly pay range of $33.93 - $42.93
(PSAC Bargaining Unit)
Reporting to the Clinical Care Manager of Surgical Services the incumbent plays a significant role in ensuring that the overall surgical booking requirements are met. The incumbent schedules patient/client appointments, and liaises with patients/clients, physicians, hospital departments and other personnel in and out of the territory. The incumbent is responsible for assistant in organizing the Surgeons surgical schedule, maintaining a database of waitlisted appointments, prioritizes consult requests, and communicating with Surgeons MOA (s) for updates and ordering appropriate doctor driven testing for patients. The incumbent recognizes their role on creating a culturally safe environment for patients, and actively demonstrates their support, understanding and alignment with Yukon Hospitals Mission, Vision and Values.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
- Solid knowledge of medical office procedures, technology, terminology and anatomy;
- Knowledge of Meditech Expanse scheduling and registration processes;
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize and adapt to workload variances;
- Ability to prioritize multiple demands in a stressful environment;
- Thoroughness and strong attention to detail;
- Strong oral and written communication skills;
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with colleagues, peers, patients and families;
- Excellent professionalism, tact, and ability to deal with agitated patients/family/supports, and physicians;
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office products (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook);
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment, ability to apply good analytical skills;
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position; and
- Cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity.
The successful candidate would have a one year Medical Office Assistant diploma, Two (2) years’ experience in a medical office, including experience scheduling patient appointments, Medical terminology and Non Violent Crisis Intervention certificate or completion of certificate within six months hire are required.
