About the role

About Us Stamford School is a large, co-educational Day and Boarding school for boys and girls aged 2 to 18. Established in 1532, it has a prestigious heritage, but everything we do is focused on preparing young people to lead happy and fulfilling lives in the 21st century.

Stamford is a family-friendly, inclusive, happy school with a deep sense of community and belonging. Our students are famously ‘rounded and grounded’, and we have a broad social mix that our parents greatly value.

We strive to provide a stimulating and challenging curriculum that inspires intellectual curiosity and encourages a love of learning. Stamford strives to offer an outstanding, contemporary education. Our students leave us with a flexible, adaptable mindset and an approach to learning that equips them to face the challenges and opportunities of their future.

We also believe that a student’s emotional well-being is paramount to their overall success. Our Pastoral care system is embedded in our daily school life, ensuring that every student feels valued, supported, and understood. We foster strong relationships between students, teachers, and parents, promoting open communication and a sense of belonging within our school community.

We are proud to offer a well-rounded education packed with opportunities beyond the classroom.

Job Description We have an exciting opportunity for a dedicated, self-motivated, and professional Deputy SENCO to lead on SEND provision within our Sixth Form as part of a part-time role. This role is central to ensuring that students with additional needs receive tailored, effective support that enables them to thrive both academically and personally. The successful candidate will work closely with students, parents, staff, and external agencies to uphold the highest standards of inclusive education. The role is part-time.

The successful candidate will be encouraged to bring their knowledge and expertise to develop forward-thinking and effective support for pupils with SEND. The School firmly believes that all pupils should experience the full range of subjects that are offered, and that withdrawal from aspects of the curriculum should be the last resort not a first response.

The School takes pupils with a wide variety of learning needs, such as dyslexia and dyspraxia, but only those pupils for whom it has the necessary expertise and structures to support. A number of pupils will be assessed before they enter the School and the School has good relationships with local Prep and Primary schools in this regard.

Desired Criteria

  • Qualified to assess students for Access Arrangements (e.g., Level 7 qualification in psychometric testing).
  • Experience in leading SEND provision in a Sixth Form or similar setting.
  • A recognised SEND qualification (e.g., BA or MA in SEND, or the NASENCO award).

Essential Criteria

  • Proven experience working with students with SEND, ideally in a post-16 or secondary setting.
  • Strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and EHCP guidance.
  • Knowledge of JCQ regulations and Access Arrangements requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • A professional approach to all aspects of the role, including communication, confidentiality, and collaboration.
  • Experience in working collaboratively with parents, students, and external professionals.
  • Ability to support and advise teaching staff on inclusive strategies and interventions.
  • Possess a recognised teaching qualification (e.g. QTS, PGCE).
  • Have a proven track record on ensuring that all pupils are able to learn and achieve to the best of their ability.
