About the role
The Payroll Financial Analyst will be responsible for providing payroll expertise to the payroll team and employees, managing and enhancing payroll systems (including SAP and payroll data collection sources), analyzing payroll data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for cost savings, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. This role will collaborate with the finance team, ensure timely payroll processing, maintain employee payroll records, ensure compliance with payroll laws, and review union agreements for system updates. Additionally, the Payroll Financial Analyst will assist the Payroll Supervisor to provide training and guidance to administrators, support SAP solutions, and manage complex employee requests.
Key Responsibilities:

Payroll Expertise:

Provide payroll expertise to the payroll team and employees.

Offer guidance and support on payroll-related queries and issues.

Act in a Team Lead capacity when Supervisor is away

System Management and Enhancements:
-
Subject matter expert on payroll systems enhancements, including SAP and payroll data collection.

Implement system updates and improvements to streamline payroll processes.

Payroll Data Analysis:
-
Analyze payroll data to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for cost savings.

Key Metrics Reporting:
-
Prepare payroll reports and dashboards for management and other departments as required.

Collaborate with the finance team to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Payroll Processing:
-
Process payroll for employees, ensuring accuracy and legal compliance.

Maintain and update employee payroll records, including salary changes, benefits, and tax deductions.

Provide back-up support for US ADP payroll processing

Compliance:
-
Ensure compliance with federal, provincial/state, and local payroll laws and best practices.

Review union agreements to ensure system correct updates to SAP.

Training and Support:
-
Provide training and guidance to administrators.

Support SAP solutions and provide user training.
-
Prepare documentation and training materials
-
Collaboration:
-
Collaborate with HR and finance for integrated payroll operations.
-
Manage complex employee requests and leave tracking, including winter layoff leave tracking and deductions tracking.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in payroll and financial analysis.
- Proficiency in SAP and other payroll systems.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends and discrepancies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of federal, state/provincial, and local payroll laws and best practices.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
- PCP or PLP designation considered an asset.
