This posting will be used to fill 1 permanent full-time positions working 75 hours bi-weekly. It will establish a 12-month eligibility list which may be used to fill similar positions.

This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon.

Your role

Are you a strategic leader with a passion for health care access and service excellence? The Government of Yukon is seeking a dynamic and driven professional to lead our Medical Travel Services team. In this pivotal role, you’ll oversee the coordination of vital medical travel for Yukoners who require insured health services both in and outside the territory. With a strong focus on client-centered care, fiscal accountability, and operational efficiency, you will ensure Yukoners receive timely and equitable access to care, no matter where they live.

You'll work at the intersection of policy, finance, and service delivery—leading innovations, building partnerships, and navigating complex logistics, all while upholding key legislative frameworks. Essential qualifications

Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet the qualifications below. Selections for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.

  • Post secondary education in health administration, business administration, public administration;
  • Progressive experience in program management or service delivery in health care, government, or similarly complex environment;
  • Experience managing budgets and financial processes, with a strong understanding of cost control and resource allocation;
  • Experience interpreting and apply legislation, policy, and regulation in a public service or healthcare setting;
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams and working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders; and
  • Experience identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance service delivery or operational efficiency.

An equivalent combination of education, training, and significant experience in health service coordination, program delivery, or public sector administration may also be considered

Desired knowledge, skills and suitability

If selected for an interview, candidates should have, and may be assessed on, the following:

  • Strong knowledge of the Yukon health care system, including medical travel frameworks, insured health services, and relevant legislation (e.g., Travel for Medical Treatment Act, Health Care Insurance Plan Act).
  • Understanding of service delivery in northern and remote contexts, including the challenges faced by rural, remote, and Indigenous communities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with clients, providers, government partners, and external jurisdictions.
  • Proven ability to lead change and process improvement, with a focus on client-centered service and operational efficiency.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making skills, especially in time-sensitive and high-stakes situations.
  • Ability to analyze and manage budgets, monitor expenditures, and apply cost-saving strategies while ensuring equitable access to care.
  • Strong policy interpretation and implementation skills, including the ability to align service delivery with legislative and regulatory frameworks.
  • Team leadership and staff management skills, including coaching, mentoring, and supporting a positive, solutions-focused workplace culture.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion in both policy and practice.

Job requirements

This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:

  • Navigating a fast-paced, high-pressure environment where critical decisions are often made on short notice, managing competing priorities and meeting tight deadlines;
  • Leading a team that consistently pushes high a volume of time sensitive medical travel bookings while ensuring compliance with policy and maintaining service standards; and
  • Regularly exposed to complex and emotionally charged situations, including interactions with dissatisfied clients
