What You'll Do As Canadian Tire Corporation continues its mission of being customer obsessed and making data driven decisions using customer insights, the Customer Research team plays a crucial role in providing qualitative and quantitative research services across the organization. This includes quarterly tracking, category research, custom ad-hoc research, and strategic consulting services to ensure the voice of the customer is represented. This role provides an exciting opportunity for a quantitative market researcher to join a dynamic team at one of the largest retailers in Canada!
Reporting to the Manager of Customer Research, the Customer Research Senior Consultant will be responsible for managing and conducting end-to-end, in-house quantitative research projects, supported by AI-powered tools (Microsoft Copilot, proprietary ‘ChatCTC’), including: recruitment of targeted panel members, questionnaire development, survey programming (Alida/Sparq), data processing and analysis (Excel/SPSS), synthesizing of findings, report preparation (PPT storytelling) and presenting results to stakeholders.
The Senior Consultant will work closely with the Customer Research Manager to execute a wide range of research projects to support various stakeholders in making data-driven decisions across Canadian Tire Corporation’s business including owned brands, product development and merchandising teams, as well as strategic marketing, Triangle, Jumpstart, and more. Research requests can range from customer journey mapping / path to purchase, concept / packaging / branding tests, feature / pricing optimization, U&A, drivers & barriers, segmentation, etc. but can also include supporting larger enterprise-level strategic initiatives. Key internal clients include owned brands marketing, product development, and category management teams, among others.
The Customer Research Senior Consultant will also have the opportunity to collaborate closely with the Manager of Qualitative Research. This role will enable you to engage in various qualitative research activities, including conducting online forums, facilitating focus groups, and leading shopalongs, to gather comprehensive insights into customer sentiment, behaviours and preferences.
In This Role, You'll
- Assist with the research request intake process; lead/provide support in briefing meetings with stakeholders to better understand the requirements and provide support on the optimal methodology to solve their objectives
- Develop questionnaires, including those with custom/complex methodologies, to answer research objectives
- Create sampling plans and utilize industry best practices to maintain panel health
- Leverage PowerPoint, Excel and SPSS to create compelling, story-driven reports with actionable recommendations for stakeholders
- Conduct advanced analyses, including MaxDiff, TURF, conjoint, etc. and be able to explain these analyses confidently to stakeholders with little to no research experience
- Present research presentations to key stakeholders (including senior levels) and facilitate discussions that solve a wide range of business challenges
- Manage project timelines; communicate with stakeholders to ensure key project milestones are met on time
- Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across various departments and support the team in proactively finding solutions to their business questions
- Partner with third party research vendors and agencies to conduct specialized, outsourced research such as customer segmentation studies
- Collaborate on new and innovative ways to leverage customer research across the Corporation to support the socialization of insights
- Collaborate on and contribute to the integration of AI technologies into our workstreams to enhance efficiency and innovation
What You Bring
- Undergraduate degree in business, marketing, analytics, social sciences (Sociology, Psychology) or a related field. Graduate degree (Masters or above in behavioural psychology, statistics, sociology, or similar) an asset.
- Minimum 5-7 years work experience in a market research role that involves conducting primary research. Agency/supplier side research experience or Research Analyst Postgraduate degree is preferred.
- Well-versed in market research fundamentals (questionnaire writing, sampling, data processing, analysis, reporting).
- Programming experience in Alida (formerly Vision Critical) or equivalent survey software (Qualtrics, Survey Gizmo, Survey Monkey, etc).
- Solid project management experience, with the ability to multi-task and independently lead multiple cross-functional research projects ranging from simple methodologies to more complex methodologies.
- Experience using AI-powered tools within research project workflows is an asset.
- Understanding of panel management fundamentals is an asset.
- Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills, including the ability to comfortably and effectively present research results in front of different types of audiences, including senior leaders.
- Skilled in Excel and/or SPSS for data analysis, including advanced analytics, and PowerPoint for data visualization/reporting.
- Excellent storytelling abilities, with a talent for generating insights that reveal the underlying significance and impact of the data (the “so what?”)
- Must be a collaborative team player and strategic thinker, with a positive attitude!
