Job Description

We are currently seeking a talented Lead Buildings Mechanical Engineer to join our Vancouver office. In this role, you will leverage your extensive experience (minimum 15 years) to lead and shape projects across various sectors, including commercial, institutional, educational and some industrial. You will play a pivotal role in mentoring a team of mechanical engineers, guiding them through projects, while also fostering client relationships.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and other aspects of mechanical engineering for buildings. They should demonstrate expertise in buildings decarbonization or deep retrofit projects, high energy efficiency projects and strong abilities in cultivating relationships with clients. The candidate should be driven to develop innovative solutions to engineering challenges as well as accompanying the clients through the design process.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee or directly contribute to the mechanical design of buildings including commercial, institutional, educational, sports & recreation, healthcare, airports, transportation, and industrial.
  • Manage and work with the project team from conceptual and preliminary stages of design through to construction completion including tender and construction /contract administration
  • Ensure compliance to the quality assurance and control program
  • Directly engage with clients to understand project needs and maintain strong business relationships.
  • Participate in the business development activities through the Metro Vancouver area.
  • Champion a culture of client service excellence and team collaboration.

Qualifications

  • A recognized mechanical engineering degree and licensed P.Eng. in British Columbia
  • Minimum 15 years of directly related experience in mechanical buildings engineering including HVAC, plumbing and building services
  • Self-motivation and strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Demonstrate a commitment to client service
  • In depth knowledge of Canadian codes and standards
  • Knowledge of commercial building automation systems and DDC controls systems
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit and commercial HVAC load calculation software
  • Valid driver’s licence and access to transportation for project requirements

The expected salary for this position is from $130,000 to $165,000 based on the richness and diversity of the candidate’s experience, training, skills and internal equity. The position or associated salary could vary depending on the profile of the candidate.
