Job Description:
Mental Health Crisis Worker RVH's Crisis Intervention Team is specifically funded by the NSM LHIN to provide a coordinated, comprehensive 7 day a week program. The Crisis Worker will provide assessment, counseling and resource information to clients experiencing crisis situations via telephone counseling and face-to-face assessments. Community education will also be provided.
As a qualified candidate you will need have the following job requirements:
- 3-Year University Undergraduate Degree in Health Sciences or Social Sciences required
- In addition to university degree above, Community College Diploma or Certification in Counselling Services, Crisis Studies, Addictions Studies, or related Community College program preferred
- Completion of a crisis intervention certificate program
- Certification in Brief solutions focused therapy
- Completion of suicide training program
- Completion of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
- Current CPR certification
- Five years progressive clinical experience with individuals with serious mental illness and/or addictions in a health care or community-based setting
- Three years’ experience in responding to patients or clients in crisis situations in a health care or community-based setting
- Demonstrated knowledge of issues faced by individuals in acute mental health/addiction distress and by individuals with severe mental health illness
- Knowledge of community services and mental health, addiction treatment and support programs
- Demonstrated knowledge and competence in the application of treatment modalities to support individuals with serious mental illness and/or addiction
- Knowledge of mental health reform and values, principles of recovery, Mental Health Act, PHIPPA, Health Care Consent Act and Public Hospitals Act
- Demonstrated ability to independently conduct formal mental health and addiction assessment, short term crisis counselling and referral

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, located in Barrie, Ontario, provides safe, high-quality care for residents across a large geographical region including Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka. The area is home to more than 450,000 residents, with half of RVH’s patients living outside the City of Barrie.
As the largest health centre in North Simcoe Muskoka, RVH provides highly specialized services, and technology not found anywhere else in the region. This includes the only interventional radiology suites for minimally invasive surgeries, vascular services, advanced stroke care, as well as dedicated trauma rooms in its large Emergency department. RVH is also home to the Hudson Regional Cancer Centre, Simcoe Muskoka Regional Heart Program, Simcoe Muskoka Regional Child and Youth Program and the RVH Regional Renal Program meaning distance is no longer a factor for residents receiving lifesaving treatment.
