ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to Director of Finance, the Accounting Manager will play a key role in the end-to-end accounting cycle. This includes providing support to the broader finance team in areas such as inventory valuation, accounts receivable, accounts payable, month end close, and payroll. The Accounting Manager will be an expert in full cycle accounting, financial reporting (US/CA GAAP, IFRS, and ASPE), as well as external audit management. They will also contribute to critical projects that impact OVO’s long-term success such as annual budgeting and project ROIs. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, can manage multiple deliverables with high accuracy, has strong business acumen, and is eager to build compliant, scalable accounting processes. This role requires a hands-on approach to accounting processes, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead month-end close reconciliations and analysis, preparing audit-ready working papers with an in-depth understanding of variance drivers
- Prepare financial reporting and dashboards to provide insights into store, department, and region performance for senior management
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including the preparation of financial statements and review related tax filings
- Develop, document, implement, and automate business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Support the external audit process, providing timely documentation and support
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes to assist in strategic planning and decision-making
- Collaborate with other departments to streamline processes to improve efficiency and on business-critical projects that improve the long-term profitability of the company, sharing data and reporting as needed
- Coach and mentor the finance team, providing guidance and support where required
- Perform all other duties as assigned
MUST HAVES
- Minimum of five+ years of progressive work experience in finance/accounting functions
- Canadian CPA designation required, strong understanding of Canadian (ASPE) and US GAAP
- Experience in public accounting firm and audit environment, experience in the retail industry is highly desirable
- Detail oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (advanced Excel) and accounting software (NetSuite preferred)
- Experienced people leader with strong team management abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
