About the role

Sheridan is seeking passionate and knowledge professionals to join our course development team within the School of Applied Health’s new Addictions and Mental Health. This program is designed to prepare students for frontline and systems-level 3ork in mental health and substance use care, with an emphasis on trauma-informed, person-centred, and equity-driven approaches. We are currently inviting applications from experienced and motivated professionals to support the development of the following courses:

  • Fundamentals of Mental Health
  • Trauma Informed Approach
  • Counselling Skills I
  • Crisis Management, Harm Reduction & Prevention

Reporting to the Associate Dean, this part-time opportunity offers a chance to contribute meaningfully to a growing field by shaping curriculum that reflects current practices, ethical standards, and emerging trends in addictions and mental health. Course developers will work both independently and in collaboration with faculty and academic leadership to design high-quality, engaging content that aligns with the programs learning outcomes.

Ideal candidates will bring a deep understanding of community mental health, substance use, harm reduction, and trauma-informed practice, as well as a commitment to inclusive education. What You’ll Be Doing

  • Designing course-specific curriculum that aligns with both the Program Learning Outcomes and individual course learning outcomes;

  • Developing engaging and accessible module content, assignments, assessments, and rubrics based on the approved course evaluation matrix;

  • Responding to feedback from internal stakeholders and incorporating revisions to strengthen course quality;

  • Applying innovative and evidence-informed instructional strategies and tools to enhance student learning and course delivery;

  • Collaborating with the program team through regular update meetings and shared development milestones;

  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

About You

You are committed to advancing the fields of mental health and substance use through education, and you bring both professional experience and a learner-centered mindset to your work.

You actively promote equity, inclusion, and diversity, and are dedicated to fostering safe, respectful, and culturally responsive learning environments—both in the classroom and in the
broader community.

You are a strong communicator and collaborator who thrives both independently and as part of a team.

You are adaptable and solutions-oriented, with the ability to navigate change and use your critical thinking skills to support the evolving needs of the program and its learners.

The successful candidate will also meet the following requirements:

  • A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Addictions and Mental Health, Counselling, Public Health (with a focus on mental health and/or substance use) or a related field;

  • The preferred applicants will have extensive knowledge and professional experience ;

  • Teaching or curriculum development experience in a postsecondary or adult education setting, will be an asset;

  • Experience with universal and accessible design is an asset;

  • Experience in teaching and curriculum development at the post-secondary level is an asset.
