Job Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Assembler to join our production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the physical assembly of custom low and medium voltage switchgear components and structures according to engineering drawings, schematics, and established quality standards. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, proficiency with tools, and a commitment to safety and precision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read, interpret, and work from mechanical blueprints, assembly drawings, schematics, and bills of material (BOMs).
- Assemble switchgear structures, enclosures, panels, and internal components using various hand tools (wrenches, screwdrivers, torque wrenches) and power tools (drills, impact drivers, grinders, saws).
- Install and mount components such as bus bars, insulators, circuit breakers, switches, relays, and other devices according to specifications.
- Perform precise measurements and ensure proper fit, alignment, and fastening of all mechanical parts.
- Verify dimensions and clearances to ensure adherence to design requirements and safety standards.
- Prepare components for assembly, which may include drilling, tapping, cutting, and deburring metal parts.
- Conduct quality checks on assembled parts and completed units to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to company safety protocols and 5S/Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and quality control personnel to resolve assembly issues and ensure production schedules are met.
- Assist with material handling, inventory counts, and reporting discrepancies as needed.
- Operate basic shop equipment safely and effectively.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Minimum 1 years of experience in mechanical assembly, preferably within a manufacturing environment related to electrical equipment, control panels, switchgear, or similar industrial products.
- Proven ability to read and accurately interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and assembly instructions.
- Demonstrated proficiency in using a wide range of hand and power tools, as well as measuring instruments (tape measures, calipers, levels).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and precision.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety procedures and protocols.
- Basic math skills required.
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 lbs regularly.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical certificate or diploma in a relevant field (e.g., Electro-Mechanical Technician, Manufacturing Technology).
- Specific experience assembling low or medium voltage switchgear or related power distribution equipment.
- Familiarity with electrical components and basic wiring practices is an asset.
- Experience working in an ISO-certified or similar quality-controlled environment.
- Forklift or overhead crane operation certification/experience.
Work Environment:
- This position operates primarily on a manufacturing shop floor.
- Exposure to noise, dust, and typical manufacturing environment conditions.
- Requires standing for extended periods, bending, crouching, kneeling, and performing repetitive tasks.
- Mandatory use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, steel-toed boots, and potentially hearing protection.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00-$28.00 per hour
