Department Information

The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

Job Information

The Manager, Safety and Marine Records (Manager) is based in Hay River and reports to the Director, Marine Transportation Services (MTS). This position is responsible for promoting and fostering a culture of safety and environmental protection while overseeing practices within MTS's operations. The position is also responsible for all aspects of security and records management, dealing with oil and gas companies during their vetting regime process which is heavily slanted towards safety. The Manager must be cognizant of reporting and documentation requirements within that environment and operate accordingly. Maintaining a relationship with Transport Canada and other regulatory authorities and understanding the requirements is critical.

Critical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities;

  • Knowledge of information/records management principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of quality, health and safety and environmental policies and practices.
  • Ability to work within and lead a team.
  • Ability to travel to remote locations to monitor and direct work in progress.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

These qualifications are typically attained by

A Diploma in Records Management, Library Science or other related field, and five (5) years of directly related (industrial and/or marine environment) experience including documentation control and three (3) years of supervisory experience.

Equivalencies may include

  • A Degree in Records Management, Library Science or other related field, Three (3) years of Directly related experience (Industrial and/or Marine environment) experience including document control and three (3) years Supervisory experience.
  • Grade 12 Diploma, seven (7) years of Directly related experience (Industrial and/or Marine environment) experience including document control and three (3) years Supervisory experience.
