Position Overview: In the role of Facilities Shift Leader, you will have the opportunity to train, lead and direct a dedicated team of operators, building service workers and contractors who are tasked with the smooth operations, maintenance and customer service of our largest community facilities. You will contribute to the community by being an active member of a positive and motivating leadership team at the Canmore Recreation Center, providing your fellow operations staff with the skills, training and support they need to ensure that the Canmore Recreation Center and all its public spaces, meeting rooms and ice surfaces are maintained and operated to the highest standards of efficiency and safely for all facility users. You will work in collaboration with other facility leaders, events booking and recreation staff to provide exceptional maintenance, custodial, and operational services within and around the facilities each day. In this role your primary responsibility will be to lead your team each shift though the efficient and successful completion of day-to-day operational duties and projects, such as; inspection and monitoring of all facility mechanical systems, refrigeration, arena /ice maintenance, HVAC, equipment, furnishing, machinery, tools, structural systems, event set up and providing custodial services to all areas of the building.
Core Accountabilities:

Knows and leads established standard operating procedures for ice maintenance, repairs and maintenance, custodial duties, building checks & inspections, plant checks, and equipment operations

Is skilled in the safe and effective use of the proper tools and equipment for each task, including proper storage and maintenance of those items

Works with the Recreation Centre Operations Supervisor to amend, develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) as required
-
Efficiently uses room booking software (intelligent) and workorders software and enters work orders in asset management software

In-depth knowledge of building management and operations
-
Oversees and evaluates cleaning contractor services for direction, quality, and completion
-
Collects and maintains data for legislative compliance and optimization of operations
-
Knows and leads established standard operating procedures for building repairs and maintenance, building checks & inspections, plant checks, use of hand tools, and equipment operations

Strong organizational, project-planning, and project task-tracking skills
-
Willing and able to learn the duties of all facilities team members to back fill other facilities positions when required
Education & Qualifications:
-
Class 5 Alberta driver’s license – required
-
Building Level 1 & 2 – asset
-
Arena Level 1 & 2 – asset
-
Standard 1st Aid & AED – asset
-
Certification and/or experience with confined space entry, fall arrest, skid steer, scissor & boom lifts – asset
Experience:
-
Proven ability to motivate and lead employees – required
-
Minimum of one-year experience as a Town Facility Operator – preferred
-
Knowledgeable about all aspects of arena operations – asset
-
Skilled in the completion of minor repairs and working with small hand tools – preferred
-
Experience in a related field such as carpentry, building operations, or plumbing – asset
-
Experience in safe handling of cleaning chemicals and materials – required
-
Experience cleaning and working with custodial equipment and supplies – required
-
Able to complete repetitive tasks and conduct manual labour that includes heavy lifting (individually up to 50 lbs. or team lift up to 100 Ibs.) – required
-
Able to work shift work in a seven-day a week operation including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays – required
-
Ability to perform work at heights – required
-
Intermediate computer skills working with Microsoft office programs (particularly Outlook) and building management software, with the ability to create and edit documents, utilize calendar functions, and send emails – required

Able to communicate and provide instructions clearly, both orally and in writing – required
Salary & Benefits:

Pay Range- $33.84 to $37.82 per hour to start. Compensation will be calculated based on the successful candidate’s related work experience and education

Work Schedule: This position requires a 40 hour per week commitment on a compressed 10 –hour/ 4-day scheduled which includes evenings, weekends and holidays.
