Job Description Contract Short Term Up to 8 Months Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

PRESTO is an electronic transit fare payment system in the Greater Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa areas that eliminates the need for tickets, passes and cash. PRESTO serves more than 5 million customers across 11 transit agencies and processes over $2.5 billion in fares through 67 million boardings per month (pre-pandemic). Today, PRESTO offers one of the most globally advanced fare payment systems in the world having delivered new ways to pay for customers, including real time PRESTO Contactless with credit and Interac debit and PRESTO in Mobile Wallet across its transit agency clients, including the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). Enhancing the customer experience through continuous improvement while working with our transit agency clients to support their needs, and maintaining a system that performs exceptionally, continue to drive PRESTO toward making transit better for all.
Our PRESTO Finance Operations Department is looking to hire a Senior Financial Analyst, that will provide financially informed analytical support to assigned projects and initiatives; understands the financial and accounting impact of business processes (e.g. audit, legal, and reporting requirements) to evaluate current and future business activities and deliver timely and accurate accounting and operational excellence.
What will I be doing?
- Conduct, participate in, and oversee daily/weekly/monthly financial reconciliation and reporting processes, and perform various financial analyses in support of the business operations
- Participate in month-end activities including General Ledger reconciliation and journal entries preparation
- Conduct or participate in complex and comprehensive financial investigations
- Create and apply reporting templates, financial models and automated processes to meet legal and corporate standards, including meeting deadlines.
- Provide subject matter expertise to support finance operational decisions, including accounting entries, or development of business proposals and business cases as it affects the financial system and operating processes
- Proactively identify incidents/problems and raise them in the appropriate channels to ensure they are resolved, and the necessary steps are taken to prevent them from reoccurring
- As a senior professional, guide and mentor other financial professionals on the team; establishing policies and procedures for analysis and reporting and reviewing their work, as required
- Develop positive relationships to support the Transit Service Providers and the PRESTO Finance Operations team with accurate settlement and reconciliation and timely response to inquiries
- Recommend process and control improvements (e.g. automating technology or accounting practices) and provide clear standards of practice, protocols, and direction for internal and external partners
- Work closely with auditors and others, to maintain financial integrity of the business and increase understanding of financial applications, controls, and standards
- Coordinate the annual audit of controls (CSAE 3416 Type II Report), conducted by an external auditor, by collecting and reviewing evidence of controls;
- Monitor the effectiveness of controls throughout the year and propose new controls
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- University degree in Accounting, Finance, Math or Commerce or related discipline.
- Designation as a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) would be considered an asset.
- Demonstrated years’ experience as a financial analyst, primarily within a financial environment following Canadian GAAP principles, investigating variances, performing reconciliations in a high volume and complex transaction environment, completing month-end related activities and working with auditors would be an asset.
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint and strong working knowledge of other computer programs and MS Office software (e.g. SQL, Access, Visio).
- Strong attention to detail, time management, organizational and analytical skills; ability to coordinate a number complex projects under pressure to meet schedule and deadline commitments.
- Superior interpersonal, oral and written/presentation communication skills.
